Clustomesogen Showing Sub‐Zero Liquid Crystal Properties: Supramolecular Assembly Between Cs2[Mo6Ii8(OCOC2F5)6] and Hexaethylenoxide Containing Mesogenic Dimers

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Associating a red‐NIR phosphorescent octahedral hexanuclear molybdenum cluster compound with hexaethyleneoxide chains bearing mesogenic units on both ends leads to an emissive hybrid liquid crystal showing mesomorphism on a very unusual temperature range down to −25°C.

Onset and early use of gestural communication in nonhuman great apes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The early gesturing of six bonobos, eight chimpanzees, three gorillas, and eight orangutans was systematically documented using focal animal sampling. Apes' were observed during their first 20 months of life in an effort to investigate: (i) the onset of ...

Great apes infer others' goals based on context [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In previous studies claiming to demonstrate that great apes understand the goals of others, the apes could potentially have been using subtle behavioral cues present during the test to succeed. In the current studies, we ruled out the use of such cues by

Captivity and the co-diversification of great ape microbiomes

open access: yesNature Communications, 2021
Here the authors sequence 16S rRNA and the more variable gyrase B protein-coding gene to profile the gut microbiome of captive great apes, which together with analysis of wild apes and humans, reveal a displacement of bacterial strains normally ...

Sustainable and Multifunctional Natural Macromolecular Polymers for Aqueous Zn Metal Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We comprehensively review the structure‐function relationships and regulatory mechanism of natural macromolecular polymers in stabilizing zinc anodes at the microscopic and mesoscopic scales. The interactions among polymer structures, optimization strategies, and regulatory mechanisms are discussed systematically summarizing recent related research ...

Should great apes have 'human rights'? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Celebrating 60 years of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights provides an opportune moment to ask whether it is time for the other great apes to be granted ‘human rights’.

Leveraging Data‐Driven and Fundamental Insights for Electrolyte Innovation in Lithium Metal Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Using 640 curated electrolyte formulations, we apply data‐driven analysis to reveal how molecular features govern coulombic efficiency (CE) in lithium metal batteries. Fluorine content correlates positively with CE, while oxygen, carbon, and higher boiling points correlate negatively.
