The Rich and the Great Recession

open access: yesIMF Working Papers, 2014
Most papers explaining the macro causes of the U.S. Great Recession focus on the behavior of the middle class: how its saving rate declined in the pre-crisis years, then surged following the crisis. This paper argues that the saving rate of the rich followed a similar pattern, the result of wealth effects associated with a boom-bust in asset prices ...

Host‐Guest Inclusion Chemistry From Supramolecular Architecture Enabling Anti‐Biofouling Surfaces for Oesophagus Stents

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A slippery coating with exceptional anti‐biofouling performance is developed using biocompatible materials for oesophagus stents. Host‐guest inclusion complex formation capabilities of FDA‐approved supramolecules, cyclodextrins are exploited, which significantly enhances the stability of the surface.

Unleashing the Power of Machine Learning in Nanomedicine Formulation Development

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A random forest machine learning model is able to make predictions on nanoparticle attributes of different nanomedicines (i.e. lipid nanoparticles, liposomes, or PLGA nanoparticles) based on microfluidic formulation parameters. Machine learning models are based on a database of nanoparticle formulations, and models are able to generate unique solutions

Droplet Triboelectrification on Liquid‐Like Polymer Brushes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work investigates the triboelectrification of water droplets on polymer brush‐coated surfaces exhibiting minimal contact line pinning. Such surfaces enable the systematic study of electrode patterning and controlled changes in droplet contact area.

CONCEPTUALISATION OF ECONOMIC CRISIS IN DISCOURSE: FROM THE GREAT DEPRESSION TO THE GREAT RECESSION

open access: yesNovìtnâ Osvìta, 2016
The article considers conceptual representation of ECONOMIC CRISIS in the economic mass-media discourse of the two historical periods: 1929–1933 and 2007–2010 to reveal its synchronic and diachronic distinctions and dichotomies. More specifically, it is

Effect of 2D and 3D ECM and Biomechanical Cues on Human iPSC‐Derived Liver Progenitor Cell Differentiation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
An engineered microtissue model is developed and optimized to investigate human liver development. Extracellular matrix composition and mechanical forces are tuned using high‐throughput assays. Human induced pluripotent stem cells serve as the cellular source, enabling the observation of de novo patterned differentiation.

Current account imbalances in the monetary union and the great recession: Causes and policies [PDF]

open access: yesPanoeconomicus, 2011
Current account imbalances within the eurozone are at the roots of its economic crisis. We argue that, though relevant, emphasis should shift from competitiveness to differential rates of growth of domestic demand as its chief explanatory factor. Euro

Human Endometrial Extracellular Matrix Hydrogel Facilitated Endometrial Mesenchymal Stem Cells for Endometrial Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Adequate thickness of the uterine lining is crucial for women with thin or damaged endometrium to achieve pregnancies. Endometrial mesenchymal stem cells (eMSC) can facilitate the cyclical repair and regeneration of the human endometrium. In this study, the human endometrium derived extracellular matrix hydrogel supports the growth of eMSC promoting ...
