Identification of xanthine in excreta of the greater wax moth, Galleria mellonella (L.)

open access: yesJournal of Insect Physiology, 1963
Abstract Xanthine has been identified as a third purine occurring in excreta of the wax moth, Galleria mellonella (L.). It is present in young and fully grown larvae, pupae, and adults. At least two unidentified substances are also present.

Decoding chemical profiles in insect‐induced gall development: Insights from Phacopteron lentiginosum–Garuga pinnata interactions

open access: yesEntomological Science, Volume 29, Issue 3, September 2026.
Analysis of volatile and non‐volatile metabolites across three developmental stages (3rd, 4th and 5th instar nymphal stages) of leaf galls induced by Phacopteron lentiginosum on Garuga pinnata revealed that the 3rd stage exhibited the highest chemical diversity and concentration followed by 4th and 5th stages.

Against the odds: Nesting specialization and foraging ecology provide insights into climate change responses in a mountain bee

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, Volume 19, Issue 5, Page 1087-1098, September 2026.
A unique high‐elevation Exoneura bee defies typical elevation‐driven declines in bee activity, nesting exclusively in dead branches of snow gums near the alpine tree line. Nesting and foraging are tightly linked to snow gum presence, with most activity occurring within 30 m of these trees. Biophysical modelling indicates the bee's thermally constrained

Stathmin‐2 mediates paracrine hormone regulation of glucagon through lysosomal trafficking in αTC1‐6 cells

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, Volume 604, Issue 17, Page 7225-7245, 1 September 2026.
Abstract figure legend Paracrine regulation of glucagon involves Stathmin2‐mediated trafficking of glucagon through lysosomal transport. Glucagon secretion is regulated by the paracrine hormones insulin and somatostatin. We postulate that insulin enhances lysosomal transport of glucagon away from sites of exocytosis, and somatostatin functions in the ...

Management of the Greater Wax Moth Galleria mellonella with Neem Azal- T/S, in the Laboratory and under Semi-Field Conditions

open access: yesJournal of Apicultural Science, 2016
Different concentrations of Neem Azal-T/S were used in an artificial diet, to study the mortality of the greater wax moth Galleria mellonella. A Neem formulation and different ages of natural beeswax combs were used for the effective management of the ...

Expansion of the winter moth outbreak range : no restrictive effects of competition with the resident autumnal moth [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
1. Both direct and indirect competition can have profound effects on species abundance and expansion rates, especially for a species trying to strengthen a foothold in new areas, such as the winter moth (Operophtera brumata) currently in northernmost ...

Dietary variations and their comparison with natural diet on the biological parameters of greater wax moth [PDF]

open access: yes
The research trial conducted at Lovely Professional University\u27s Department of Entomology, School of Agriculture examined the efficacy of two distinct diets and one natural diet in the mass rearing of the greater wax moth. The influence of recommended

Dibrachys cavus, a promising parasitoid in the biological control of the greater wax moth (Galleria mellonella)

open access: yes, 2021
The chalcid wasp Dibrachys cavus (Walker) is a parasitoid of wax moths (Galleria mellonella). It would be interesting to find whether it could be used in the biological control of wax moths.

The microbiome of the invertebrate model host Galleria mellonella is dominated by Enterococcus

open access: yesAnimal Microbiome, 2019
Background The popularity of Galleria mellonella as invertebrate model is increasing rapidly, because it forms an attractive alternative to study bacterial, fungal and viral infections, toxin biology, and to screen antimicrobial drugs.
