Performance of a green propellant thruster with discharge plasma

Acta Astronautica, 2017
Abstract A discharge plasma was applied to initiate the combustion of a hydroxylammonium nitrate-based propellant as a substitute for the catalysts that are typically employed. The resulting thrust and thrust-to-power ratio during short interval firing tests as well as the chamber pressure with a single pulse discharge were evaluated.

Making Progress Towards «Green» Propellants

Propellants, Explosives, Pyrotechnics, 2018
AbstractStabilisers are used in propellants to prevent the various effects such as oxidation, chain scission, energy loss and uncontrolled heat generation that are caused by homolytic and heterolytic cleavage of the weakest Nitrogen‐Oxygen bond of the nitrate ester functional group.

Green Propellants Perspectives for Future Missions

44th AIAA/ASME/SAE/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference & Exhibit, 2008
Many upper stages and spacecrafts use MMH / NTO for the propulsive manoeuvres. For low and medium delta V operations, a low cost space storable propellant couple could be selected e.g. N2O / propane or propylene. LOX / light hydrocarbon combinations offer superior Isp and are well suited for higher delta V requirements like planetary orbit insertion or

Propeller efficiency options for green ship

Proceedings of 2012 9th International Bhurban Conference on Applied Sciences & Technology (IBCAST), 2012
Environmental issues and rising fuel prices necessitate better energy-efficiency in all sectors. Shipping industry is one of the stakeholders in environmental issues. Shipping industry is responsible for 3 % of global CO 2 emissions, 14–15 % of global NO X emissions and 16 % of global SO X emissions.
