Hydroxylammonium nitrate—the next generation green propellant
The space race in the 1960s had led to the continuous development of rocket fuel as traditional liquid propellant options are known to be carcinogenic.

The propellant storage compartments (propellant tanks) are one of the parts that have undergone noted evolution in the design nature (mainly the shape and the structural properties) as well as the development process. To achieve high system performance for a given propulsion system, inert mass reduction as well as efficient volume utilization can be ...

Performance of a green propellant thruster with discharge plasma
Acta Astronautica, 2017Abstract A discharge plasma was applied to initiate the combustion of a hydroxylammonium nitrate-based propellant as a substitute for the catalysts that are typically employed. The resulting thrust and thrust-to-power ratio during short interval firing tests as well as the chamber pressure with a single pulse discharge were evaluated.

Hot Firing Tests of a Novel Green Hypergolic Propellant in a Thruster
This study investigates the ignition and combustion behavior of the recently developed green hypergolic combination named HIP_11 in a small thruster. The combination HIP_11 consists of highly concentrated hydrogen peroxide as oxidizer and a fuel based on

Making Progress Towards «Green» Propellants
Propellants, Explosives, Pyrotechnics, 2018AbstractStabilisers are used in propellants to prevent the various effects such as oxidation, chain scission, energy loss and uncontrolled heat generation that are caused by homolytic and heterolytic cleavage of the weakest Nitrogen‐Oxygen bond of the nitrate ester functional group.

Green Propellants Perspectives for Future Missions
44th AIAA/ASME/SAE/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference & Exhibit, 2008Many upper stages and spacecrafts use MMH / NTO for the propulsive manoeuvres. For low and medium delta V operations, a low cost space storable propellant couple could be selected e.g. N2O / propane or propylene. LOX / light hydrocarbon combinations offer superior Isp and are well suited for higher delta V requirements like planetary orbit insertion or

Propeller efficiency options for green ship
Proceedings of 2012 9th International Bhurban Conference on Applied Sciences & Technology (IBCAST), 2012Environmental issues and rising fuel prices necessitate better energy-efficiency in all sectors. Shipping industry is one of the stakeholders in environmental issues. Shipping industry is responsible for 3 % of global CO 2 emissions, 14–15 % of global NO X emissions and 16 % of global SO X emissions.

Fusing of Seven HBCs toward a Green Nanographene Propeller
Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2019This work presents a green chiral nanographene propeller (NP), which is built by fusing seven hexabenzocoronenes in a helical arrangement. It contains 258 conjugated carbon atoms and represents the largest three-dimensional conjugated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons ever prepared using scalable solution chemistry.

Gelled hydrogren peroxide for green propellants
2010Nearly pure hydrogen peroxide with less than 1% water was gelled using 15 to 25% polyvinyl-pyrrolidon (PVP) resulting in stable mono-propellants with reliable rheological properties and sensitivity parameters better than nitromethane according to drop hammer and friction. Maximum vacuum specific impulse was calculated to 2750 Ns/kg.

Ignition Test of Bi-Propellant Propulsion System Based on Green Propellants for Microsatellite
47th AIAA/ASME/SAE/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference & Exhibit, 2011Purpose of microsatellites under 50kg-class development, is now becoming to practical and more complicated mission. At the same time, propulsion system for the microsatellites tends to be eagerly desired for their missions with orbit transfer. Therefore, we considered chemical propulsion is very suitable for the microsatellites and started to develop ...
