Emissions by aerial routes from protected crop systems (greenhouses and crops grown under cover) : a position paper

open access: yes, 2009
This report describes the processes that may lead to emission of Plant Protection Products (PPP) from protected cultivation, through aerial routes. The introduction gives the background for this work and the limitations, outlining in particular why ...

Health Care Use Among Patients Presenting to Emergency Department for Gout Flares in Ontario, Canada: A Population‐Based Health Systems Analysis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We characterized emergency department (ED) gout visits and identified patient characteristics and health services patterns contributing to ED presentations. Methods We conducted a population‐based study of ED gout visits in Ontario, Canada, between 2014 and 2023.

The Economics of the Mega-Greenhouse Effect: A Conceptual Framework [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper examine the economics of the mega-greenhouse effect under two scenarios. One caps total CO2 levels and the other limits annual emission rates.

Innovative Processing of Compacted Waste Aluminum Alloy Powders via Controlled Remelting and Solidification

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates an efficient recycling route for out‐of‐spec AlSi10Mg atomized powders through compaction and arc remelting followed by suction casting. By correlating compaction load, cooling rate, and resulting microstructure, we show that intermediate pressures (50–80 kN) and rapid cooling refine dendrites, reduce porosity, and enhance ...

PROGRESS IN ESTIMATING THE MARGINAL COSTS OF GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS [PDF]

open access: yes
The unjust distributional consequences of climate change, and its potentially negative aggregate effect on economic growth and welfare are two reasons to be concerned about climate change.

Evaluation of diets based on Brachiaria grass with different levels of byproducts from the biodiesel industry using in vitro gas production degradability

open access: yesMedicina Veterinária, 2020
This study was performed to evaluate the production of gas and volatile fatty acids in diets containing byproducts from the national biodiesel industry (castor bean, canola, forage turnip, and black sunflower) in four levels (0, 30, 50 and 70%), through ...

Silicified Wood‐Inspired, High‐Strength Fire‐Resistant Chitin‐Based Aerogels for Sustainable High‐Temperature Thermal Insulation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by natural silicified wood, a biomimetic mineralized chitin‐derived aerogel is constructed. It can withstand 81 000 times its own weight, and its backside temperature is 130.4°C after exposure to ∼1300°C butane flame for 600 s, exhibiting high‐strength, fire‐resistance, and super thermal‐insulation properties.

Net Isotopic Signature of Atmospheric CO2 Sources and Sinks: No Change since the Little Ice Age

open access: yesSci
Recent studies have provided evidence, based on analyses of instrumental measurements of the last seven decades, for a unidirectional, potentially causal link between temperature as the cause and carbon dioxide concentration ([CO2]) as the effect. In the

Facile Preparation of Carbon Membranes Derived from a Fluorenyl‐Containing Polyimine for Selective Hydrogen Separation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A fluorenyl‐containing polyimine is introduced as a simple, scalable precursor for high‐performance carbon membranes. The precursor's intrinsic kinked structure enables defect‐free membrane formation with enhanced hydrogen permeance and excellent ideal selectivities for key industrial gas pairs (H2/N2, H2/CH4, and H2/CO2), offering a practical route ...

Agriculture's role in greenhouse gas emissions and capture

open access: yes, 2010
This working paper addresses changes in climate and how the rising global temperature can be partially attributed to an increasing concentration of greenhouse gases (GHGs) in the atmosphere.
