Grey seals use anthropogenic signals from acoustic tags to locate fish: evidence from a simulated foraging task [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Anthropogenic noise can have negative effects on animal behaviour and physiology. However, noise is often introduced systematically and potentially provides information for navigation or prey detection.

3D Printed Photon Shield Assembly for Low‐Noise Visual Stimulation During Two‐Photon Imaging in Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
We present the Photon Shield, an open‐hardware system for low‐noise two‐photon calcium imaging during visual stimulation in mice. Combining a 3D‐printed headplate and rail‐mounted shield substantially reduces stray‐light contamination, as quantitatively verified. Functional validation confirms reliable cortical responses. Open design files enable broad

Recoveries of Grey Seals Halichoerus grypus (Fabricius) tagged along the Norwegian coast

open access: yesFauna Norvegica, 1987
A total of 1040 Grey Seals have been tagged along the Norwegian coast in the period from 1975 to 1986. Most of them (985) have been tagged at Froan on the coast of Sør-Trøndelag. Ninetythree of the tagged seals have been recovered. The majority of these

In‐House Manufacturing of 3D ECM Culture Chips via Vacuum Thermoforming for Enhanced Imaging Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Desktop vacuum thermoforming enables rapid, low‐cost fabrication of 96‐channel polystyrene culture chips with very thin imaging interfaces. The resulting platform supports cell lines, primary cells, and patient‐derived organoids, and enables high‐resolution confocal microscopy and single‐cell visualization, providing an accessible approach for advanced

Biodegradable and Edible Milli‐Fluidic Logic Circuits

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Fully biodegradable and edible fluidic circuits are developed using gelatin‐based valves that operate at low pressure. Logic gates, a one‐bit memory, and a ring oscillator are demonstrated, showing that biodegradable materials can perform computation and control.

Modelling space-use and habitat preference from wildlife telemetry data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Management and conservation of populations of animals requires information on where they are, why they are there, and where else they could be. These objectives are typically approached by collecting data on the animals’ use of space, relating these to

Recoveries of grey seals (Halichoerus grypus) tagged on the Murman coast in Russia

open access: yesNAMMCO Scientific Publications, 2007
A total of 612 grey seal (Halichoerus grypus) pups were tagged on the Murman coast, Russia, in the years 1991, 1992 and 1994. A majority of them (542) were tagged at the Ainov archipelago. Thirty-one (2.9%) of the tagged seals have been recovered, mainly

Miniaturized Magnetic Tip Design for Endoluminal Vine Robot Navigation

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A magnetic tip mount is designed for a miniaturized 7 mm soft‐growing vine robot to enable wireless magnetic steering and onboard imaging, while preserving a 3 mm working channel. The internal–external ring magnets design balances magnetic attachment with low eversion pressure. Experiments demonstrate ±90° steering, 34 mm bending radius, and successful
