Apex predators exploit advantageous snow conditions across hunting modes

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
Advantageous snow conditions—in terms of snow depth and density—are among the most important features of the winter landscape for two apex predators, regardless of hunting strategy. In a warming climate, the knock‐on effects of a diminishing snowpack may reduce the hunting success of multiple large carnivore species.

An intelligent fault identification method of rolling bearings based on SVM optimized by improved GWO

open access: yesSystems Science & Control Engineering, 2019
To improve the accuracy and the recognition efficiency of a bearing fault diagnosis, a fault diagnosis method based upon the improved grey wolf optimization (IGWO) algorithm and support vector machine (SVM) is proposed in the following manners.

Cenozoic Tectonics Ignite Mitochondrial Codon Innovations Propelling Canid Body Size Evolution and Transcontinental Radiations

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
We decode mitochondrial genomes across all extant canids, revealing lineage‐specific codon optimization driven by altitude, predation, and body size. A tripartite framework integrates geological events, metabolic constraints, and adaptive radiation to explain carnivore evolution.

Effect of Social Rank on Gut Microbes and Their Metabolites of Greater Long‐Tailed Hamsters (Tscherskia triton)

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Social rank in greater long‐tailed hamsters (Tscherskia triton) shapes gut microbiota composition and metabolite profiles. Dominant males exhibit a “high‐vigilance, metabolically activated” phenotype, with elevated aggression and specific gut microbiota enriched in energy‐harvesting taxa and fecal queuine.

Where leopards die: identifying mortality hotspots in northern Pakistan

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, EarlyView.
The relevance of this work to conservation policy and practice is twofold. First, it offers concrete spatial insights that can directly inform the design of targeted mitigation strategies and proactive interventions. Second, it highlights the limitations of current protected area networks and underscores the urgent need to incorporate human‐dominated ...

3SD: Rotational symmetry single‐shot denoising in fluorescence microscopy

open access: yesJournal of Microscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Image noise is a fundamental problem in fluorescence microscopy analysis, especially in live cell imaging applications where the number of detected photons is limited due to low power of excitation lasers to prevent phototoxicity during extended imaging experiments.
