A Systematic Review of Grid-Forming Control Techniques for Modern Power Systems and Microgrids

open access: yesEnergies
Looking toward the future, governments around the world have started to change their energy mix due to climate change. The new energy mix will consist mainly of Inverter-Based Resources (IBRs), such as wind and solar power.

Performance Analysis of Abradable Coating Systems for Aircraft Gas Turbines

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Three CoNiCrAlY/YSZ/MgAl2O4 abradable liner configurations on a nickel‐superalloy are evaluated by thermal‐gradient cycling and incursion tests. Laser ablation of the bondcoat and/or Y2O3‐stabilized ZrO2 (YSZ) intermediate layer increases mechanical interlocking and bonding for thick topcoats.

Angular Stability Analysis of Parallel Connected Grid-following PV Inverters

open access: yes2023 IEEE Texas Power and Energy Conference (TPEC), 2023
High penetration of distributed generators (DG) in modern power grids creates angle, voltage, and frequency instabilities. Most of the work in the literature has focused on small-signal stability analysis of single grid-connected inverters without thoroughly investigating their transient stability for large disturbances and interactions between ...

Rafting of Ni‐Based Superalloys Under Multiaxial Load as Understood by Phase‐Field Simulations and Critical Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Phase‐field simulations coupled with dislocation‐density‐based crystal plasticity modeling reproduce γ′ rafting behavior in single‐crystal Ni‐based superalloys under varied loading conditions. The model captures both macroscopic creep and microscopic morphology evolution, with results matching high‐temperature creep experiments.

How many grid-forming converters are needed? – A techno-economic perspective

open access: yesiEnergy
Renewable generation is rapidly increasing and transforming power systems toward “new-type power systems”. The integration of renewable energy resources necessitates a shift from conventional grid-following converters (GFLs) to advanced grid-forming ...

A Review of Synchronization Stability Analysis and Control Strategies for Grid-Connected Inverters [PDF]

open access: yesDianli jianshe
[Objective] With the increasing penetration of power electronic devices in the new power systems, the system is gradually evolving from a “physical synchronization” paradigm dominated by synchronous generators to a “control-based synchronization ...

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Managing very large distributed datasets on a data grid

open access: yes, 2009
In this work we address the management of very large datasets, which need to be stored and processed across many computing sites. The motivation for our work is the ATLAS Experiment for the Large Hadron Collider, where the authors have been involved in ...
