GRID-FOLLOWING THREE-PHASE INVERTER WITH RMS CURRENT-LIMITING PROPERTY

IET Conference Proceedings, 2021
A novel nonlinear controller that inherently limits the RMS value of a three-phase grid-following inverter current is presented in this paper. Using the dynamic model of the inverter in the rotating dq reference frame, a nonlinear control scheme is formulated to ensure accurate real and reactive power regulation with RMS current limitation that avoids ...

Grid-Following Inverters and Synchronous Condensers: A Grid-Forming Pair?

2020 Clemson University Power Systems Conference (PSC), 2020
As power systems across the globe continue to achieve higher instantaneous penetrations of power electronic converter-interfaced renewable sources, the stability of these power systems is challenged because of the removal of synchronous machines, from which stability is traditionally derived.

Dynamic Grid Frequency Support using a Self-Synchronising Grid-Following Inverter

2021 IEEE 12th Energy Conversion Congress & Exposition - Asia (ECCE-Asia), 2021
This paper uses a self-synchronising grid-following inverter to provide dynamic frequency support for a low inertia grid system. The approach uses frequency deviations from nominal, as measured from the inverter current controller outputs, to shape a power reference based on these grid frequency variations during a transient event. This power reference

PLL-less Active and Reactive Power Controller for Grid-Following Inverter

2020 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE), 2020
This paper presents a control scheme for single-phase grid-following inverters that does not rely on the phase-locked-loop (PLL) algorithm for synchronizing the injected current with the grid. The absence of the PLL avoids unstable low damping modes that are possibly originated from the PLL’s nonlinear nature.
