Transient impedance of GIS grounding grid
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1995The transient impedance of a grounding grid for a commercial 550 kV gas-insulated substation (GIS) was measured on site using steep front currents with rise time from 100 ns to 2 /spl mu/s. From the measured results, it was found that the transient impedance of the measured grid for those currents is simulated by a series circuit with an inductance 1 ...

Impulse impedance of rectangular grounding grids
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1992In an earlier work B.R. Gupta and B. Thapar (1980) presented the results of investigations and empirical formulae to evaluate the impulse impedance of square grounding grids. In the present work, the authors extend those investigations to the rectangular grounding grids.

Online Grid-Impedance Measurement Using Ternary-Sequence Injection
IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2018Grid impedance affects the stability and control performance of grid-connected power-electronics devices, such as inverters, used to integrate wind and solar energy. Adaptive control of such inverters, to guarantee stability under different grid conditions, requires online measurement of the grid impedance performed in real time.

The performance of the grid-connected inverter was affected by the uncertainty of the grid conditions including the background distortion and the grid impedance. Typically, the feedforward of the grid voltage at the point of common coupling (PCC) highly suppressed the grid current harmonics caused by the grid voltage distortion; however, the PCC grid ...

Impedance Characteristics of Multi-layer Grids
2016The power distribution network spans many layers of interconnect with disparate electrical properties. The impedance characteristics of multi-layer power distribution grids and the relevant design implications are the subject of this chapter.Decoupling capacitors are an effective technique to reduce the effect of the inductance on power distribution ...

Enhanced grid integration of renewable power plants by grid impedance measurement
IECON 2015 - 41st Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2015This paper deals with the topic grid impedance measurement as an objective instrument to evaluate the grid integration of renewable power plants (RPP) e.g. wind-or pv-farms. Up to now the evaluation of grid integration is realized by using the calculated value of the grid impedance, which is normally provided by the grid owner. Since the grid impedance

Robust control of grid-connected converters under wide grid impedance variation
2019 IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference - Latin America (ISGT Latin America), 2019This paper investigates the robust current control of grid-connected converters operating under wide grid impedance variation. Digital state feedback control gains are obtained based on linear matrix inequalities that ensure the location of the closed-loop poles inside a circle with radius r, included in the unit circle.

Current control optimization for grid-tied inverters with grid impedance estimation
2010 Twenty-Fifth Annual IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition (APEC), 2010The control of a PWM inverter is affected by variable inductance present in the power line of the grid. This paper presents a new implementation of grid-tied inverter with weighted-average-current feedback control (WAC) and an embedded online technique to determine the grid line impedance.

Online grid impedance identification for adaptive control of grid-connected inverters
2012 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE), 2012This paper presents the online implementation of a grid impedance identification method embedded as an ancillary function within the DSP of a grid-connected inverter. Online identification of the grid impedance is required for assessing in real-time the stability of the interconnected system formed by the grid-connected inverter and the ac grid.
