Adaptive occupancy grid mapping with clusters
Artificial Life and Robotics, 2006In this article, we describe an algorithm for acquiring occupancy grid maps with mobile robots. The standard occupancy grid mapping developed by Elfes and Moravec in the mid-1980s decomposes the high-dimensional mapping problem into many one-dimensional estimation problems, which are then tackled independently.

A map is an abstract model of graphical signs that represents parts of the near-surface region of the earth or geospace. It is a model of reality, and like any model, the map simplifies and generalizes the reality. Maps represent a simplified and distorted image of reality and claim an informative, communicative as well as aesthetic use.

Dimensions of Uncertainty in Evidential Grid Maps
2014We show how a SLAM algorithm based on belief function theory can produce evidential occupancy grid maps that provide a mobile robot with additional information about its environment. While uncertainty in probabilistic grid maps is usually measured by entropy, we show that for evidential grid maps, uncertainty can be expressed in a three-dimensional ...

Improved Occupancy Grids for Map Building
Autonomous Robots, 1997Occupancy grids are a probabilistic method for fusing multiple sensor readings into surface maps of the environment. Although the underlying theory has been understood for many years, the intricacies of applying it to realtime sensor interpretation have been neglected.

Topography and the Mapping Grid
1998Establishing an accurate and permanent grid system allows trees to be mapped precisely and relocated easily, and is also the basis for developing a topographic map of the plot, providing elevation, slope, and aspect information—all of which are crucial for understanding tree distributions.

Vectorization of Grid Maps by an Evolutionary Algorithm
2007Mapping is a fundamental topic for robotics in general and in particular for rescue robotics where the provision of information about the location of victims is a core task. Occupancy grids are the standard way of generating and representing maps, i.e., in form of raster data.

Seismic mapping using trendform gridding
SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 1998, 1998The Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS) is a government research institute under the Danish Ministry of Environment and Energy, and as such acts as government advisor on matters relating to oil and gas exploration and production. GEUS also offers its services on a commercial basis and, in the spring of 1996, was awarded a contract by a ...
