Climatic, biogeographic and ecological factors influence the spatial patterns of odd‐ and even‐year dominance in biennial European butterflies and burnet moths

250,000 observations of 7 annual, 11 biennial and 4 flexible lepidoptera species in the Alps and over 150,000 observations of 5 biennial species from Scandinavia were analysed. Maps show distinct patterns of different species that fly predominantly in odd or even years in the researched areas.
