Limited capacity for rapid acclimation to marine heatwaves in coastal invertebrates

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, Volume 95, Issue 10, Page 2088-2103, October 2026.
Across 10 coastal invertebrate species, we provide a rare multi‐species test of rapid acclimation to realistic marine heatwaves. Responses are consistently weak, revealing that short‐term plasticity cannot keep pace with warming and may lead to underestimated vulnerability in coastal ecosystems. Abstract Marine heatwaves are increasing in frequency and

Coffee (Coffea arabica L.) Silverskin: Transforming a Recycled By‐Product Into Natural Antioxidant Ingredients for Ready‐to‐Eat Fish Products

open access: yesJournal of Food Science, Volume 91, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Given salmon's high susceptibility to oxidation and the need for sustainable food processing, this study evaluated the technological potential of incorporating 0.5% coffee silverskin (CSS), using two specific materials evaluated in this study, namely, artisanal (ACS) and industrial (ICS) coffee silverskins, into restructured salmon stored ...

Coinfections Dampen the Effects of Temperature on Host–Parasite Interactions

open access: yesEcology Letters, Volume 29, Issue 10, October 2026.
Temperature can drive large shifts in host–parasite interactions, but these shifts need not correspond to strong effects on coinfecting parasite interactions. Coinfection may provide a stabilizing effect on disease in a warming world—but this effect can falter when hosts are faced with multiple stressors.

Divergent Spatial and Temporal Sensitivities of Forest Biomass to Climate Challenge Space‐For‐Time Assumptions and Models

open access: yesEcology Letters, Volume 29, Issue 10, October 2026.
Spatial and temporal climate–biomass relationships diverge globally: spatial gradients explain more variation and yield much stronger sensitivities than interannual temporal variability. This mismatch propagates into future projections, with spatial relationships indicating forest biomass losses while temporal extrapolations and Earth system models ...

How Patients' Inquiry Shapes Meaning in Primary Care Consultations: A Qualitative Study Using Own‐Point‐of‐View Video‐Stimulated Recall

open access: yesJournal of Evaluation in Clinical Practice, Volume 32, Issue 7, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Rationale Medical consultations are collaborative encounters in which physicians and patients jointly address health concerns and make decisions. While most research has focused on physicians' clinical reasoning, decision‐making is increasingly viewed as a form of situated cognition, distributed across individuals and their interactions ...

Satire and Silence under Authoritarian Rule: Cotton and Pesticide Perceptions in Tajikistan

open access: yesJournal of Agrarian Change, Volume 26, Issue 4, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Over the past 70 years, agricultural chemicals have become a mainstay of cotton farming in Central Asia. This growing reliance on agrochemicals has not remained uncontested. This article analyses the politics of pesticides in Soviet and post‐Soviet Tajikistan by examining how, and to what extent, pesticides have featured in graphic satire, an ...

Optimization of Salt Composition and Influence of β‐Lactoglobulin Nanostructures on the Physicochemical and Textural Properties of Minas Frescal Cheese

open access: yesJournal of Texture Studies, Volume 57, Issue 5, October 2026.
A central composite rotatable design was used to evaluate the effects of sodium chloride (NaCl), potassium chloride (KCl), and β‐lactoglobulin (β‐lg) nanostructure concentrations on the physicochemical and textural properties of Minas Frescal cheese.

Alluvial ridge morphology on avulsing rivers

open access: yesSedimentology, Volume 73, Issue 6, Page 2311-2337, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Alluvial ridges are built by preferential channel‐belt deposition and control river avulsions, yet a systematic analysis of their morphology has been missing. To address this gap, we analyse a globally distributed dataset of 8970 alluvial ridge flanks on 14 different rivers.

The Altitude Effect of Stable Isotopes in Rivers Over the Tibetan Plateau

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 18, 28 September 2026.
Abstract The altitude effect of stable isotopes in river water is key to paleoelevation reconstruction, yet remains poorly quantified at regional scales due to monitoring challenges. This study compiled river water isotope data across the Tibetan Plateau and used a decision‐tree‐based random forest model to simulate high‐resolution δ18O patterns.
