Experimental studies on grinding forces and force ratio of the unsteady-state grinding technique
Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2002Abstract The whole machining process of unsteady-state grinding was evaluated through the measurement of the grinding forces, namely tangential grinding force Ft and normal grinding force Fn. A number of accurate signals of the grinding forces were achieved by setting up a measurement system including a sensor, an amplifier, an oscilloscope and a ...

Grinding forces and energy play an important role in all abrasive machining operations. While specific grinding energy may be obtained from workpiece dynamometer values or by measuring spindle power, care must be exercised in converting dynamometer reading into power consumed.

Grinding force modeling and experimental verification of rail grinding
Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part J: Journal of Engineering Tribology, 2020Many factors could affect the grinding force during rail grinding processes. Therefore, the grinding force modeling is necessary for predicting the grinding forces under different rail grinding parameter conditions. In this study, 3D models of grinding wheels were constructed based on the surface topographies of real grinding wheels.

Journal of Engineering for Industry, 1988
This paper investigates belt forces in abrasive belt grinding. The distribution of normal and tangential belt forces are determined analytically and experimentally for belt grinding with both a driving and a driven pulley contact wheel. The experimental results are compared with the analytical results.

External grind-hardening experiments and its grinding force
Journal of Shanghai University (English Edition), 2009The grind-hardening method suitable for external grinding is proposed in this paper and the experiments are carried out on M1432B grinding machine. The hardened layer of the workpiece with cut depth 0.3 mm and speed 0.2 m/min is analyzed. The result indicates the metallurgical structure of the hardened layer is martensite and the top hardness value is ...

Grinding Forces and Grinding Energy in High Speed Grinding for Quenched Steel
Key Engineering Materials, 2009Grinding experiments for quenched high-speed tool steel by resin bonded CBN (cubic boron nitride) wheel were conducted with a surface grinder. The grinding forces were measured under different grinding parameters. The effects of grinding parameters on grinding forces and grinding force ratio are discussed.

Theoretical Model of Grinding Force in Quick-Point Grinding
Materials Science Forum, 2009Separating the workpiece velocity on the plane of grinding wheel, it is helpful to analyze Quick-point grinding mechanism. There are some relations among wheel’s deflective angle, workpiece feed velocity and tangential velocity. In this research, the resultant workpiece speed, grinding contact zone and material removal mode is analyzed.

The prediction of grinding forces in cylindrical plunge grinding
International Journal of Production Research, 1986SUMMARY Traditionally the grinding process has been a finishing process and the operating parameters and the results obtained in this mode are well known. However, there is an increasing demand for the use of high rates of metal removal grinding and when allied with the application of adaptive control this has highlighted a need to be able to predict ...

Modeling and Predicting Grinding Force of the Grinding Process
Advanced Materials Research, 2014A new method for predicting the grinding force is developed in this paper. The grinding forces model is build by divided it into cutting deformation force and sliding force and combine the undeformed chip thickness which assume the height of grits obey the Rayleigh distribution.

Cutting Forces in Internal Grinding
Russian Engineering Research, 2020Models of the cutting force in various types of grinding may be based on the fundamental laws regarding local plastic deformation of metal by the wheel’s abrasive grains and also the kinematics of cutting in the grinding conditions. The models take account of the cutting conditions and the geometric parameters of the wheel–workpiece contact zone.
