Modeling and analysis of grinding force in surface grinding

2011 IEEE International Conference on Computer Science and Automation Engineering, 2011
A new simple model of grinding force in surface grinding is proposed in this paper. The model is based on the fact that the grinding forces are composed of chip formation force and sliding force. The formula for calculating the tangential and normal grinding force per unit width is obtained based on the classical formulas.

Forced Cooling Modeling in Grinding

2021
A mathematical model is developed for a grinding temperature cycle, invariant to the machining material properties and grinding modes with the managed dimensionless parameters of forced cooling, taking into account the heat exchange and grinding fluid temperature.

Force controlled robot for grinding

IEEE International Workshop on Intelligent Robots and Systems, Towards a New Frontier of Applications, 2002
Two algorithms for use in force controlled robot applications have been developed for grinding. The 'gradient prediction method' is presented as an improvement to contour following in the force control mode. In this method, the gradient of the workpiece is predicted, and the force errors caused thereby are corrected.

Forces in Dry Surface Grinding

Journal of Fluids Engineering, 1952
Abstract A dynamometer is described for measuring independently the normal and tangential forces in surface grinding. These forces are correlated with such variables as wheel speed, table speed, depth of cut, direction of table motion, grit material and size, specimen hardness and dressing technique.

Forces in Wet Grinding

1965
The previous chapter was concerned mainly with the mechanisms used in obtaining grinding force. Discussion now turns to its controlled application, and to balance of the grinding components at work.

Adaptation of Traditional Grinding Force Models to Cylindrical Cup Grinding

Optical Fabrication and Testing, 1996
The dynamics of grinding is less well investigated than other machining processes. In particular, the cylindrical cup grinding process used in optical manufacturing has received little attention. Our interest in this arises from the observation of rose-petal shaped marks called cutter marks during microgrinding glass lenses.

Thermal expansions and grinding forces accompanying plunge-cut surface grinding

International Journal of Machine Tool Design and Research, 1973
Abstract The thermal expansion of the workpiece when plunge-grinding a flat surface yields a complex variation in grinding force magnitude from pass to pass. The heated metal layers bulge upwards due to expansion in the plane of the surface and the constraining action of cooler sub-surface material.

Modeling and experimental study of grinding forces in surface grinding

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2009
Grinding forces are composed of chip formation force and sliding force. A new mathematical model of grinding forces in surface grinding is developed in this paper. Effectiveness of this model is proved by comparison of the experimental results and the model calculation results.

Forces in vertical surface grinding

International Journal of Machine Tool Design and Research, 1968
Abstract The forces between wheel and workpiece under Vertical Grinding conditions have been measured with the aid of a three-dimensional dynamometer. Tests were carried out on mild steel, medium carbon steel, and cast iron specimens using table speeds of 10–85 ft/min and down feeds of 0·0005-0·003 in.
