How to combine a hydrophobic matrix and a hydrophilic filler without adding a compatibilizer – Co-grinding enhances use properties of renewable PLA-starch composites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In order to avoid the use of compatibilizers or plasticizers, co-grinding was performed to produce PLA – starch composite materials. Fragmentation and agglomeration phenomena were analysed to propose a production mechanism.

High Temperature Wear of Grinding Wheel

open access: yesJournal of the Japan Society of Precision Engineering, 1973
There are few reports about the wear of grinding wheel when grinding hot steels. In the present study the constant pressure plunge grinding tests have been performed with carbon steels, SUS 24 and SUS 27 stainless steels at the workpiece temperature range of room temperature to 600°C under the loads of 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 kg/cm2.

Cathodic Cage Plasma Deposition of Nanostructured Cu–Fe–Se Coatings on Poly(methyl Methacrylate)

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Nanostructured Cu–Fe–Se coatings are deposited on PMMA by a modified cathodic cage plasma process, enabling low‐temperature deposition on polymer substrates. A transition from discontinuous to compact morphology is observed with temperature, with optimal properties at 200°C, where improved CuFeSe2‐type bonding, lowest sheet resistance, and favorable ...

Understanding and Optimizing Li Substitution in P2‐Type Sodium Layered Oxides for Sodium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work explores Li‐substituted P2 layered oxides for Na‐ion batteries by crystallographic and electrochemical studies. The effect of lithium on superstructure orderings, on phase transitions during synthesis and electrochemical cycling and on the interplay of O‐ versus TM‐redox is revealed via various advanced techniques, including semi‐simultaneous

Printed Integrated Logic Circuits Based on Chitosan‐Gated Organic Transistors for Future Edible Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Edible electronics needs integrated logic circuits for computation and control. This work presents a potentially edible printed chitosan‐gated transistor with a design optimized for integration in circuits. Its implementation in integrated logic gates and circuits operating at low voltage (0.7 V) is demonstrated, as well as the compatibility with an ...

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

Increasing the operational stability of running surfaces of aluminothermiс welded rail joints by hot grinding

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
Welded joints have traditionally been a weak point in a design of continuous welded rail (CWR) tracks. Grinding can be used as a resource-saving technology. The purpose of this paper is to study the grinding technology for welded rail joints at different

Production of Ultrafine, High-purity Ceramic Powders Using the US Bureau of Mines Developed Turbomill [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
Turbomilling, an innovative grinding technology developed by the U.S. Bureau of Mines in the early 1960's for delaminating filler-grade kaolinitic clays, has been expanded into the areas of particle size reduction, material mixing, and process reaction ...
