Assessment on UAV onboard positioning in ground control point establishment

2016 IEEE 12th International Colloquium on Signal Processing & Its Applications (CSPA), 2016
UAV offers advantages in mapping purposes due to its size, flexibility, and ease of use above other aerial platforms. Several sensors attached to the system such as GPS receiver combining with control module enables navigation and positional information to be obtained by the pilot on ground. However, due to its notorious poor quality image acquisition,

Ground control pointing and geometric transformation of satellite imagery

International Journal of Remote Sensing, 1986
Abstract LANDSAT imagery has been corrected for Earth curvature and rotation, satellite attitude errors and sensor non-linearities, it still contains significant geometric distortions with the centre of the scene only located to an accuracy of a few kilometres.

Automatic Ground Control Points Refinement For Remote Sensing Imagery Registration

2005 International Conference on Intelligent Sensors, Sensor Networks and Information Processing, 2005
Several sources of geometric distortion are contained in optical remote sensing images including earth rotation, platform movement, scanning nonlinearity. They result in geometric errors on scene level, image level and pixel level. It is critical to rectify the errors before a thematic map is generated, especially when the remote sensing data need to ...

Reliable Subpixel Ground Control Point Estimation Algorithm Using Vector Roads

IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters, 2016
This letter proposes a novel algorithm for reliable and accurate ground control point (GCP) estimation, which uses vector road network data as a reference. Roads are detected in satellite images, and road patches are used as a template, which is matched against the vector road data by using a nonlinear criterion based on the distance transform.
