Deformation of Tunnels by Ground Freezing

open access: yesJournal of the Japan Society of Engineering Geology, 1984
Investigation about railway tunnels in cold districts was made to analyze the actual condition of tunnel deformation by ground freezing. As we have expected these tunnels are deforming showing seasonal alteration clearly, deformation is advanced in winter and relived in summer.

Folding model analysis of proton scattering from $^{18,20,22}$O nuclei

open access: yes, 2006
The elastic and inelastic proton scattering on $^{18,20,22}$O nuclei are studied in a folding model formalism of nucleon-nucleus optical potential and inelastic form factor.

Enhancing Corrosion Resistance and Mechanical Strength of 3D‐Printed Iron Polylactic Acid for Marine Applications via Laser Surface Texturing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser surface texturing significantly improves the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of 3D‐printed iron polylactic acid (Ir‐PLA) for marine applications. Optimal laser parameters reduce corrosion by 80% and enhance tensile strength by 25% and ductility by 15%.

Converting NAD83 GPS heights into NAVD88 elevations with LVGEOID, a hybrid geoid height model for the Long Valley volcanic region, California [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
A GPS survey of leveling benchmarks done in Long Valley Caldera in 1999 showed that the application of the National Geodetic Survey (NGS) geoid model GEOID99 to tie GPS heights to historical leveling measurements would significantly underestimate the

Evaluation of the Potential of Laser Shock Peening Compared with Cold Expansion for Improving Fatigue Resistance of Riveted Lap Joints of Aerospace Grade 7175 Al Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser shock peening for enhancing fatigue performance of riveted aerospace aluminum joints. A comparative approach with cold expansion combines fatigue testing and synchrotron X‐ray methods. Integrating mechanical testing with residual stress and strain characterization provides insights into how different treatments affect the ...

Is Young's Modulus a Critical Coating Property Determining Fouling‐Release Performance of Marine Coatings?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The release of foulers from protective marine coatings is determined by several interrelated material properties, including the strength of Young's modulus, the flexibility of chain segments, the surface free energy, and the magnitude of hydrodynamic stress.

Strain accumulation and surface deformation along the San Andreas, California [PDF]

open access: yes
The goal of this project remains to be the achievement of a better understanding of the regional and local deformation and crustal straining processes in western North America, particularly the effect of the San Andreas and nearby faults on the spatial ...
