Ground deformation monitoring in the UAE

2023

Inelastic Deformation of Pipelines Induced by Temporary Ground Deformations

Volume 2: Pipeline Safety Management Systems; Project Management, Design, Construction, and Environmental Issues; Strain Based Design; Risk and Reliability; Northern Offshore and Production Pipelines, 2018
This paper describes a new design method to obtain the inelastic deformation of pipelines induced by temporary ground deformations. The proposed design method consists of an elastic solution and a strain conversion procedure which was developed to predict the inelastic strain distribution by using the elastic solution and a stress-strain curve ...

Precipitation, Groundwater and Ground Deformation

1990
Strainmeters and tiltmeters installed on or at a shallow part under the ground surface record ground deformations caused by rainfall. Such deformations are detected to a depth of several ten meters with these instruments, and accordingly they are main noises to observations of crustal movements and/or earth tides with these instruments.

Ground-Deformation Methods and Results

1996
A comprehensive volcano-monitoring program should include techniques to measure surface deformations in order to contribute to a complete characterization of volcanic behavior. Conventional modern geodetic techniques provide useful tools for the capture of discrete or continuous ground-deformation data. Baseline data volcano deformation observed during

Prediction of tunnel deformation in squeezing grounds

Engineering Geology, 2013
In this paper, dimensionally correct empirical correlations have been developed with correlation factor of 0.94 to predict tunnel deformation for squeezing grounds. Data of 63 sections from various case histories of 14 adits/tunnels/mine roadway were included for the study.

Deformation Analysis in Soft Ground Improvement

2011
This book deals with the behaviour of soft ground improved by some of the more common methods, including the installation of prefabricated vertical drains (PVDs), or the installation of soil-cement columns formed by deep mixing, or the preloading of soft ground by application of a vacuum pressure in addition to, or instead of, a surcharge loading.

Ground Deformation Induced by Vacuum Consolidation

Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, 2005
The deformation characteristics of soil subjected to vacuum pressure are discussed and an approximate method is proposed for calculating settlement and lateral displacement of the ground induced by vacuum consolidation. Laboratory oedometer test results indicate that if the vacuum pressure alone is larger than the lateral stress required to maintain an

Impact of Ground Deformation on Structures

1983
The components of ground movement arrived at in earlier sections — namely, subsidence vz and horizontal displacement v, together with the factors of tilt v z ’ , surface curvature v z ” , and linear change s derived from them — serve the subsidence engineer as a basis for determining surface damage.

Ground deformations in collapsed caldera structures

Journal of Volcanology and Geothermal Research, 1993
Abstract A method is presented to analyze the effect of stress-strain discontinuities on the ground deformations generated by a pressure source. This is meant to simulate the effects due to caldera structures, likely to present fractured zones at the borders of the collapsed area.

The motion of a tracked vehicle on deformable ground

Journal of Terramechanics, 1966
Abstract The rolling resistance of a tracked vehicle has been derived by taking into consideration the total soil deformation caused by the track elements. The values obtained from a consideration of final rut depth alone are shown to be about 50 per cent too small. Results of sinkage experiments on a T-75 tractor are also discussed.
