Observation of ground potential rise caused by artificially-triggered lightning
2010 Asia-Pacific International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility, 2010Comparative analysis was made between the ground potential rise resulted from an artificially-triggered flash, the channel base current and close magnetic fields. The results indicated that the current peaks of the two strokes in artificially-triggered flash were 41.6 and 29.6 kA. The inferred currents, based on the close magnetic fields, were about 39.

Impact of Different Frequency-Dependent Soil Models in Transient Ground Potential Rise
2021 14th IEEE International Conference on Industry Applications (INDUSCON), 2021The frequency dependence of soil electrical parameters must be considered for a precise computation of the electrode grounding impedance and of the transient ground potential rise (GPR) generated by an injected lightning current. This work computes the grounding impedances of conductors (rods and electrodes) seen as short transmission lines (TL) based ...

Impact of Frequency-Dependent Soil on Transient Ground Potential Rise of Counterpoise Electrodes
2021 14th IEEE International Conference on Industry Applications (INDUSCON), 2021Tower-footing grounding impedance has a fundamental impact on the generated overvoltages in power system when a transmission tower is hit by lightning. In order to compute accurately the tower-footing grounding impedance, the frequency dependence of soil electrical parameters (resistivity ρ g and relative permittivity e r ) must be considered in the ...

Influence of Ground Potential Rise on Recloser Control Broad in Distribution Lines
2006 International Conference on Power System Technology, 2006This paper presents the numerical analysis method of current distribution electromagnetic fields, using grounding and soil structure analysis (CDEGS) software to interpret apparent resistances field measurement result. The steepest descent method is the function of least-square criterion which is adopted to translate and to explain the field measured ...

Calculation and Analysis of the Impact of Ground Potential Rise on 10kV Lightning Arrester
2019 IEEE Sustainable Power and Energy Conference (iSPEC), 2019As the capacity of the power system continues to expand, the risk of explosions in 10kV arresters is increased due to ground potential rise. This paper analyzes the mechanism of the 10kV arrester affected by ground potential rise, and determines that the arrester explosion caused by the insufficient flow capacity is the main problem to be prevented at ...

Ground potential rise from lightning overvoltage in communication station
2008 5th International Conference on Electrical Engineering/Electronics, Computer, Telecommunications and Information Technology, 2008This paper compares the ground potential rise (GPR) from lightning overvoltage with two different grounding methods, no bonding and bonding of grounding systems, between the communication tower and main ground bar (MGB) of the TOT communication station.
