The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Vortex signatures in annular Bose-Einstein condensates

open access: yes, 2005
We consider a Bose-Einstein condensate confined in a ``Mexican hat'' potential, with a quartic minus quadratic radial dependence. We find conditions under which the ground state is annular in shape, with a hole in the center of the condensate.

From independent particle towards collective motion in two electron square lattices [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The two dimensional crossover from independent particle towards collective motion is studied using 2 spinless fermions interacting via a U/r Coulomb repulsion in a LxL square lattice with periodic boundary conditions and nearest neighbor hopping t. Three

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

The impact of substation secondary equipotential grounding grid connection methods on grounding grid characteristics

open access: yes电力工程技术
The impact of electromagnetic interference on secondary systems in substations can be reduced by the installation of secondary equipotential grounding grid.

Arctic coastal hazard assessment considering permafrost thaw subsidence, coastal erosion, and flooding

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2023
The thawing of permafrost in the Arctic has led to an increase in coastal land loss, flooding, and ground subsidence, seriously threatening civil infrastructure and coastal communities.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Topology of the ground state of two interacting Bose-Einstein condensates

open access: yes, 2002
We investigate the spatial patterns of the ground state of two interacting Bose-Einstein condensates. We consider the general case of two different atomic species (with different mass and in different hyperfine states) trapped in a magnetic potential ...

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

Tunneling of anyonic Majorana excitations in topological superconductors

open access: yes, 2010
We consider topological superconductors and topological insulator/superconductor structures in the presence of multiple static vortices that host Majorana modes and focus on the Majorana tunneling processes between vortices.
