Arctic coastal hazard assessment considering permafrost thaw subsidence, coastal erosion, and flooding

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2023
The thawing of permafrost in the Arctic has led to an increase in coastal land loss, flooding, and ground subsidence, seriously threatening civil infrastructure and coastal communities.

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Enhanced low-temperature entropy and flat-band ferromagnetism in the t-J model on the sawtooth lattice

open access: yes, 2007
Using the example of the sawtooth chain, we argue that the t-J model shares important features with the Hubbard model on highly frustrated lattices. The lowest single-fermion band is completely flat (for a specific choice of the hopping parameters $t_{i ...

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Graphene-Substrate Effects on Characteristics of Weak-Coupling Bound Magnetopolaron

open access: yesAdvances in Condensed Matter Physics, 2020
Graphene has many unique properties which have made it a hotbed of scientific research in recent years. However, it is not expected intuitively that the strong effects of the substrate and Coulomb doping in the center of crystal cell on the polaron in ...

Hall effect in heavy-fermion metals

open access: yes, 2012
The heavy fermion systems present a unique platform in which strong electronic correlations give rise to a host of novel, and often competing, electronic and magnetic ground states.

Molecular cancer prevention: Intercepting disease

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Oncological practice must evolve, from treating established tumours to proactive cancer interception before clinical manifestation. This will require mechanistic insight into tumour initiation, validated biomarkers of early disease development and redesigned clinical trials, enabling cancer interception to become a core pillar of oncology with the ...

Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Assessment for Taiwan

open access: yesTerrestrial, Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, 2016
The Taiwan Earthquake Model (TEM) was established to assess the seismic hazard and risk for Taiwan by considering the social and economic impacts of various components from geology, seismology, and engineering.
