Design and Validation of an Enhanced Earthing System for Low Ground Resistance [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Electrical and Electronic Engineering
Grounding systems are critical for ensuring electrical safety, minimizing fault currents, and enhancing infrastructure reliability, particularly in regions with high-resistivity soil.

Overvoltage Analysis in Monopile-Based Offshore Wind Turbines Using Real Lightning Field Data

open access: yesIEEE Access
In this paper, a detailed electromagnetic transient model of monopile-based offshore wind turbines and their grounding systems is presented to evaluate transient overvoltages produced by direct lightning strikes (downward and upward), based on real data ...

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

Re‐Awakening Public Attention to the Silent Pandemic of Cancer Among Older Adults in Low‐ and Middle‐Income Countries

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT As global populations age, cancer is increasingly becoming a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among older adults, particularly in low‐ and middle‐income countries (LMICs). Despite accounting for the majority of new cancer cases and deaths, older individuals remain underrepresented in cancer research, clinical guidelines, and health ...

Identifying Soft-Ground-Story Pre-1977 High-Rise Structures in Bucharest for Updated Seismic Risk Analysis

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Soft-ground-story configurations in high-rise buildings present a critical vulnerability during seismic events, often leading to disproportionate structural damage and collapse.

Vortex signatures in annular Bose-Einstein condensates

open access: yes, 2005
We consider a Bose-Einstein condensate confined in a ``Mexican hat'' potential, with a quartic minus quadratic radial dependence. We find conditions under which the ground state is annular in shape, with a hole in the center of the condensate.

Mutant NPM1 in Acute Myeloid Leukemia Initiation and Maintenance

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
NPM1 mutations drive acute myeloid leukemia by acting as neomorphic transcriptional regulators that cooperate with Menin–MLL and XPO1 to sustain HOX/MEIS1 expression and block differentiation. Targeting these mutant‐specific transcriptional dependencies provides a rational therapeutic strategy for NPM1‐mutated AML.

Spontaneous symmetry breaking of fundamental states, vortices, and dipoles in two- and one-dimensional linearly coupled traps with cubic self-attraction

open access: yes, 2017
We introduce two- and one-dimensional (2D and 1D) systems of two linearly-coupled Gross-Pitaevskii equations (GPEs) with the cubic self-attraction and harmonic-oscillator (HO) trapping potential in each GPE.

Long‐Term Follow‐Up of Chemotherapy‐Associated Biological Aging in Women With Early Breast Cancer

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Women threated with adjuvant chemotherapy for early breast cancer have sustained long‐term increase in p16INK4a,, a robust marker of cell senescence, suggesting a chemotherapy‐associated age acceleration. p16INK4a as well as other biomarkers may identify patients at greatest risk for senescence‐related diseases of aging.

Tunneling of anyonic Majorana excitations in topological superconductors

open access: yes, 2010
We consider topological superconductors and topological insulator/superconductor structures in the presence of multiple static vortices that host Majorana modes and focus on the Majorana tunneling processes between vortices.
