Laser cooling of a nanomechanical oscillator into its quantum ground state
Nature, 2011The simple mechanical oscillator, canonically consisting of a coupled mass–spring system, is used in a wide variety of sensitive measurements, including the detection of weak forces and small masses.

Single-ancilla ground state preparation via Lindbladians
Physical Review Research, 2023We design a quantum algorithm for ground state preparation in the early fault tolerant regime. As a Monte Carlo style quantum algorithm, our method features a Lindbladian where the target state is stationary.

Nuclear Ground State Correlations
Moscow University Physics Bulletin, 2023The paper discusses ground state correlations (GSC) in nuclei, which are especially clearly manifested when using the formalism of quantum Green’s functions (FG) and Feynman diagrams. In addition to one-particleone-hole GSC, which appear in the well known random phase approximation method (RPA), there exist and give a noticeable quantitative ...

Field-tunable quantum disordered ground state in the triangular-lattice antiferromagnet NaYbO2
Nature Physics, 2019Antiferromagnetically coupled S = 1/2 spins on an isotropic triangular lattice are the paradigm of frustrated quantum magnetism, but structurally ideal realizations are rare.

Sideband cooling of micromechanical motion to the quantum ground state
Nature, 2011The advent of laser cooling techniques revolutionized the study of many atomic-scale systems, fuelling progress towards quantum computing with trapped ions and generating new states of matter with Bose–Einstein condensates.

The critical characteristic of ground state dioxygen is that it is a triplet instead of a singlet state. This fact contributes to the kinetic barrier in reactions with ground-state dioxygen and also influences the type of reactions that do occur.

XeF ground state kinetics analysis
Applied Optics, 1987A physical model of the temporal aspects of the ground electronic state of XeF in an e-beam pumped environment has been developed in terms of the most recent kinetic and thermochemical information available. Surprisal theory was used to interrelate the individual collision transition probabilities, including those describing promotion of molecules to ...

Physics Bulletin, 1981
In the June 1980 issue of Physics Bulletin (p160), Professor I C Percival discussed recent advances in the use of semi-classical mechanics to calculate the ground state energy of the helium atom. The results agree closely with those of quantum mechanics and experimental measurement.

Ground state of granular metals
Physical Review Letters, 1993We argue that for granular metals a sizable fraction of the grains becomes charged because the energy fluctuation of the highest-occupied level of each grain, as predicted by random matrix theory, is larger than the charging energy. We have computed the ground state density of states and the degree of ionization of granular metals.
