What Is Grounded Theory Good For? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Grounded theory (GT) made its appearance in the social sciences in 1967 with publication of Barney Glaser and Anselm Strauss’s The Discovery of Grounded Theory.

Dielectric Barrier Discharge Plasma Deoxidation of Natively Oxide Layer of Copper Powders in a Fluidized Bed

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This paper presents a novel approach to reducing oxide layers on metal powders using low‐temperature hydrogen dielectric barrier discharge plasmas at atmospheric pressure. Unlike conventional hydrogen‐plasma reductions, the powders do not contact the plasma directly.

Incorporation of Selenium into Sol–Gel‐Derived Bioactive Glass: Influence on Glass Structure, Bioactivity, and its Selective Cytotoxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Selenium was incorporated into a sol–gel‐derived bioactive glass to enable sustained therapeutic ion release. The selenium‐containing glass preserved bioactivity while selectively inducing cytotoxicity in osteosarcoma cells and maintaining osteoblastic viability.

Grounded Leadership, Emergence Coaching, & Classic Grounded Theory

open access: yesGrounded Theory Review: An International Journal, 2022
This study describes the iterative development of a Grounded Leadership (GL) and Emergence Coaching (EC) model based on classic grounded theory (CGT), designed to foster the emergence and realization of human potential.

Solid‐State Diffusion and Intermetallic Phase Formation in Roll‐Bonded Mg–Zn Composites With Kirigami‐Patterned Inlay

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.

Affecting the Properties of Copper–Graphene Electroconductive Composite by Severe Plastic Deformation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Copper‐based composites enhanced with carbon feature convenient mechanical properties and favorable electric conductivity. Processing via deformation and thermomechanical treatments can introduce advantageous microstructures further enhancing their performance. Herein, copper–graphene powder‐based composites are directly consolidated via rotary swaging

Exploring Caregiver Grief

open access: yesGrounded Theory Review: An International Journal
Preparing a research protocol using Glaserian (classic) grounded theory (GT) is often challenging for novice researchers due to aspects of the methodology deviating from more familiar quantitative research and also from some aspects of other qualitative

Understanding the Stochastic Nature of Process Parameter Development of Blown Powder Laser Beam Directed Energy Deposition Additive Manufacturing of Pure Molybdenum

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Identified through the use of statistical design of experiments and metallographic investigation, this study exposes the stochastic origins of intergranular cracks in blown powder laser beam directed energy deposition additive manufacturing of pure molybdenum. It further demonstrates a successful crack mitigation approach with direct correlation to the

Motivating and inhibiting factors in online gambling behaviour: a grounded theory study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
To date, there has been very little empirical research examining why people gamble online or – just as importantly – why they do not gamble online. A grounded theory study examining the motivating and inhibiting factors in online gambling was carried out.
