Hair from different ethnic groups vary in elemental composition and nitrogen and phosphorus mineralisation in soil

Environmental Monitoring and Assessment, 2017
Disposal of hair wastes at landfills causes nitrate leaching to ground water, and use of the waste as fertiliser could be a viable option. This study was to determine elemental composition of major hair types in South Africa and their nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) release in soil.

Application of Regression Equations to the Calculation of the Elemental and Group Composition of Peats from Western Siberia

Solid Fuel Chemistry, 2020
The applicability of regression equations obtained for peats from the European territory of Russia and Belarus to the conditions of Western Siberia was tested. Calculations showed that these equations can be used for the determination of the carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen contents and the group composition of the organic matter of peat (bitumen, water ...

Variations in Composition, Texture, and Platinum Group Element Mineralization in the Lower Group and Middle Group Chromitites of the Northwestern Bushveld Complex, South Africa

Economic Geology, 2019
Small-scale variations in mineral chemistry, textures, and platinum group element (PGE) mineralization were investigated in the Lower and Middle Group chromitite layers LG6, LG6a, MG1, MG2, and MG2 II from vertical drill core profiles at the Thaba mine in the northwestern limb of the Bushveld Complex.

Ophiolitic Chromitites of Timor Leste: Their Composition, Platinum Group Element Geochemistry, Mineralogy, and Evolution

The Canadian Mineralogist, 2017
Ultramafic rocks that crop-out as fault-bounded blocks within Hili Manu, ∼50 km east of the capital Dili on the north coast of Timor Leste, have been a topic of considerable debate regarding their ophiolitic affiliation with the Banda Arc or Australian subcontinental lithosphere.

Investigation of the structure and elemental composition of group components of petroleum residua by IR spectroscopic methods

Chemistry and Technology of Fuels and Oils, 1972
1. IR and UV spectroscopy have been used to study the chemical structure of the constituent components of petroleum residua. 2. IR spectroscopy has also been used to study the elemental composition of these materials. 3. Analogous constituent components (fractions) of the petroleum residua that were investigated had identical

Effects of Cu2+on morphological structure, functional groups, and elemental composition of aerobic granular sludge

Environmental Technology, 2013
Aerobic granular sludge (AGS) is shaped by the self-immobilization of microorganisms. In this study, AGS was cultivated successively in a column sequencing batch reactor (SBR) with glucose and sodium acetate as the carbon sources. The shock-loading effects of varying the Cu2+ concentration (0.0, 1.0, 3.0, 5.0, or 10.0 mg/L) on the characteristics of ...

Recent Changes in Platinum Group Element Concentrations and Osmium Isotopic Composition in Sediments from an Urban Lake

Environmental Science & Technology, 2003
Automobile catalyst emissions have resulted in the occurrence of elevated Pt, Pd, and Rh concentration in the urban and roadside environment. We investigate the chronology of platinum group elements (PGE) accumulation in dated sediments from an urban lake near Boston, MA.

Platinum Group Element Concentrations and Osmium Isotopic Composition in Urban Airborne Particles from Boston, Massachusetts

Environmental Science & Technology, 2005
Platinum, Pd, Rh, and Os were found to occur at elevated concentrations in airborne particles (PM10) collected at urban sites in Boston, MA. Average Pt, Pd, Rh, and Os concentrations were 6.9 +/- 1.9, 8.1 +/- 1.8, 1.50 +/- 0.50, and 0.068 (-0.068 + 0.070) pg m(-3), respectively.

Accurate Thermochemistry for Main-Group Elements up to Xenon with the Wn-P34 Series of Composite Methods

Journal of Chemical Theory and Computation, 2021
In the present study, we introduce the accurate Wn-P34 quantum chemistry composite methods with applicability to heavy p-block elements up to xenon. For a set of thermochemical properties for prototypical third- and fourth-row species and for a diverse set of small light-main-group species, they show accuracies of ∼3 kJ mol-1 or better. Overall, the Wn-

Re-Os isotopic systematics and platinum group element composition of the Tagish Lake carbonaceous chondrite

Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta, 2005
The Tagish Lake meteorite is a primitive C2 chondrite that has undergone aqueous alteration shortly after formation of its parent body. Previous work indicates that if this type of material was part of a late veneer during terrestrial planetary accretion, it could provide a link between atmophile elements such as H, C, N and noble gases, and highly ...
