Comparison of the Simplexa GBS Direct and ARIES GBS assays for the detection of S. agalactiae in broth-enriched swab specimens

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
We conducted a comparative evaluation of the FDA-cleared Simplexa GBS Direct and ARIES GBS molecular assays for the detection of Streptococcus agalactiae (Group B Streptococcus, GBS) in 386 prospectively collected, broth-enriched vaginal/rectal swab ...

Identification and characterization of two temperature-induced surface-associated proteins of Streptococcus suis with high homologies to members of the arginine deiminase system of Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yes, 2002
The present study was performed to identify stress-induced putative virulence proteins of Streptococcus suis. For this, protein expression patterns of streptococci grown at 32, 37, and 42°C were compared by one- and two-dimensional gel electrophoresis ...

H2S‐Amplified “Three‐in‐One” Antibacterial Strategy for Periodontitis Treatment Using a Photosensitive Pillararene‐Embedded COF/MOF Hybrid

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The integration of ROS‐generating systems with H2S depletion strategies effectively overcomes the limitations imposed by endogenous antioxidant defenses on ROS‐based antimicrobial therapies. In this study, the Cu‐MOF is incorporated into pillararene‐embedded COF, achieving a “three‐in‐one” antimicrobial effect that markedly alleviated periodontal ...

Generation of a neonatal sepsis model in humanized mice

open access: yes, 2012
Streptococcus agalactiae (group B streptococcus (GBS)) is a gram-positive bacterium and a harmless commensal in the gastrointestinal and vaginal flora of healthy adults.

Broad-Host-Range Shuttle Vectors for Screening of Regulated Promoter Activity in Viridans Group Streptococci: Isolation of a pH-Regulated Promoter [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Viridans group streptococci are major constituents of the normal human oral flora and are also identified as the predominant pathogenic bacteria in native valve infective endocarditis.

ZDHHC17‐Mediated CDK4 Palmitoylation Drives Cell Cycle Progression and Orchestrates Cancer Immune Surveillance

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ZDHHC17 palmitoylates CDK4, which together with TRAF6‐mediated ubiquitination, drives cell cycle progression and immune surveillance, revealing a rational combination of CDK4 inhibitors with immune checkpoint blockers for ZDHHC17‐driven cancers. ABSTRACT Uncontrolled cell cycle progression is a hallmark of cancer, tightly regulated by both intrinsic ...

Vaccination against Group B streptococcus

open access: yesExpert Review of Vaccines, 2005
Streptococcus agalactiae (Group B streptococcus) is an important cause of disease in infants, pregnant women, the elderly and in immunosuppressed adults. An effective vaccine is likely to prevent the majority of infant disease (both early and late onset), as well as Group B streptococcus-related stillbirths and prematurity, to avoid the current real ...

Allosteric Inhibition of Polycomb Repressive Complex 2 by an EZH2‐Selective Small Molecule Inhibitor

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The study characterizes C36, a highly selective EZH2/PRC2 inhibitor that acts via a novel allosteric mechanism. Unlike previous inhibitors, C36 inhibits EZH2/PRC2 by disrupting the allosteric communication between EZH2 and EED in a SAM‐noncompetitive manner.

FOS3D: A Fluorescence‐Enabled Toolkit for Characterizing a Three‐dimensional Osteosarcoma Model

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
FOS3D describes fluorescent (F) osteosarcoma (OS) cells in a tri‐dimensional (3D) model. The study comprises three phases: development, where biofabrication parameters are tuned to achieve cytocompatibility and tumor‐specific mechanical properties in cell‐laden gelatin methacryloyl constructs; validation, where whole‐well fluorescence reading is ...
