The collective motion of a set of moving entities like people, birds, or other animals, is characterized by groups arising, merging, splitting, and ending. Given the trajectories of these entities, we define and model a structure that captures all of such changes using the Reeb graph, a concept from topology. The trajectory grouping structure has three

Group Structure as a Foundation for Entropies. [PDF]
Entropy can signify different things. For instance, heat transfer in thermodynamics or a measure of information in data analysis. Many entropies have been introduced, and it can be difficult to ascertain their respective importance and merits. Here, we consider entropy in an abstract sense, as a functional on a probability space, and we review how ...

On the Group Structure in Homotopy Groups [PDF]
Usually the group structure in a homotopy group is defined directly and explicitly. But the algebraic approach to the topology, now common, seems to raise the following question : is that the only group sturcture which is natural from the algebraic topological point of view?

The structure of Selmer groups [PDF]
The purpose of this article is to describe certain results and conjectures concerning the structure of Galois cohomology groups and Selmer groups, especially for abelian varieties. These results are analogues of a classical theorem of Iwasawa. We formulate a very general version of the Weak Leopoldt Conjecture.

Extended topological group structure due to average reflection symmetry [PDF]
We extend the single-particle topological classification of insulators and superconductors to include systems in which disorder preserves average reflection symmetry.

Hidden Quantum Group Structure in Einstein's General Relativity [PDF]
A new formal scheme is presented in which Einstein's classical theory of General Relativity appears as the common, invariant sector of a one-parameter family of different theories.

The structure of approximate groups [PDF]
Let K ⩾1 be a parameter. A K -approximate group is a finite set A in a (local) group which contains the identity, is symmetric, and such that A ⋅ A

In group-living animals, the social structure and organisation play a significant role in survival and reproduction. Understanding the social aspects of animal lives in the wild may be crucially important for effective conservation of threatened species.
