Quantum theory of dispersive electromagnetic modes [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
A quantum theory of dispersion for an inhomogeneous solid is obtained, from a starting point of multipolar coupled atoms interacting with an electromagnetic field.

Flatband Slow Wave in Novel Air-Hole-Array Strip Waveguides

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2009
We design two novel air-hole-array strip waveguides: one with elliptic air holes and the other with sandglass-shaped ones. Simulation results prove that flatband modes with low group velocity and low dispersion can be obtained.

Influence of Physical Parameters of Coal Seam on “Cross” Phenomenon of Rayleigh In-seam Wave Dispersion Curve

open access: yesMeikuang Anquan, 2020
Dispersion curves of Rayleigh channel waves may have “cross” between the fundamental and first higher order modes either in the phase velocities or in group velocities in the low frequency band.

Polymer Microring Coupled-Resonator Optical Waveguides [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We present measurements of the transmission and dispersion properties of coupled-resonator optical waveguides (CROWs) consisting of weakly coupled polymer microring resonators.

ChandraObservations of Low Velocity Dispersion Groups [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2005
Deviations of galaxy groups from cluster scaling relations can be understood in terms of an excess of entropy in groups. The main effect of this excess is to reduce the density and thus luminosity of the intragroup gas. Given this, groups should also should show a steep relationship between X-ray luminosity and velocity dispersion.

Period-Timing Bifurcations in a Dispersion-Managed Fiber Laser With Zero Group Velocity Dispersion

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2016
We report on the numerical results of period timing bifurcations in a dispersion-managed (DM) fiber laser with zero group velocity dispersion (GVD).The fiber laser is passively mode-locked by using the nonlinear polarization rotation technique.

Localized Dispersive States in Nonlinear Coupled Mode Equations for Light Propagation in Fiber Bragg Gratings. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Dispersion effects induce new instabilities and dynamics in the weakly nonlinear description of light propagation in fiber Bragg gratings. A new family of dispersive localized pulses that propagate with the group velocity is numerically found, and its ...

Broader, flatter optical spectra of passively mode-locked semiconductor lasers for a wavelength-division multiplexing source [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Using the time domain master equation for a complex electric-field pulse envelope, we find analytical results for the optical spectra of passively mode-locked semiconductor lasers. The analysis includes the effect of optical nonlinearity of semiconductor

High coupling efficiency to a low dispersion slow light-supporting photonic crystal waveguide [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the European Optical Society-Rapid Publications, 2013
In this paper, we design a waveguide on photonic crystal slab for propagation of low-dispersion slow light. By shifting the air holes adjacent to the waveguide, we obtain a photonic crystal waveguide with a group index of 25 in 25 nm bandwidth which ...

High-energy, shock-front assisted resonant radiation in the normal dispersion regime [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We present a simple yet effective theory that predicts the existence of resonant radiation bands in the deep normal group velocity dispersion region of a medium, even in absence of a zero-group velocity dispersion point.
