Huge group-velocity dispersion in a photonic crystal

We investigated the group-velocity dispersion of a one dimensional uniform photonic crystal by the optical transmission method. For application in optical communications, the wavelength should be near one of the two edges of a photonic bandgap. Four kinds of dispersion-compensation may be obtained with a photonic crystal.

Negative group-velocity dispersion using refraction

It is shown that a negative contribution to the group-velocity dispersion always accompanies angular dispersion. We describe structures, such as slabs and prisms, that use this contribution to provide adjustable group-velocity dispersion. We discuss, in particular, considerations regarding incorporation of these structures with a laser resonator.

Abstract Dispersive ionization waves with the linear dispersion relation are discussed. A coupling between the ordinary sound wave and the F - ionization wave is presented as a possible explanation of the straightening of the free F - ionization wave dispersion relation.
