TREM2 Downregulation Disrupts Microglial Function and Synaptic Pruning Through RA/RARα Signaling: Mechanisms Underlying Autism‐Like Behaviors

open access: yesPediatric Discovery
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) involves neuroimmune dysregulation and synaptic pruning defects. This study aimed to investigate the role of triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2 (TREM2) in ASD pathogenesis and its link to retinoic acid (RA ...

Main Health-Promoting Compounds Response to Long-Term Freezer Storage and Different Thawing Methods in Frozen Broccoli Florets

open access: yesFoods, 2019
The effects of long-term freezer storage and different defrosting methods on the retention of glucosinolates, vitamin C, and total phenols in frozen broccoli florets were investigated in the present study. Frozen broccoli florets were stored in a freezer

Growth and Development in Lady Beetles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Living in a group can potentially put stress on an animal. This is particularly true for species like Hippodamia convergens, the convergent lady beetle, the larvae of which will cannibalize each other when food sources are limited.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Growth cycles: transformation and regional development [PDF]

open access: yes
Departing from the renewed interest within economic history and neo-Schumpeterian perspectives on growth and economic transformation, we will suggest a theoretical framework for analyzing long term regional economic growth and transformation.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Galactose and its Metabolites Deteriorate Metaphase II Mouse Oocyte Quality and Subsequent Embryo Development by Disrupting the Spindle Structure

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) is a frequent long-term complication of classic galactosemia. The majority of women with this disorder develop POI, however rare spontaneous pregnancies have been reported. Here, we evaluate the effect of D-galactose

PICALM::MLLT10 translocated leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This comprehensive review of PICALM::MLLT10 translocated acute leukemia provides an in‐depth review of the structure and function of CALM, AF10, and the fusion oncoprotein (1). The multifaceted molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis, including nucleocytoplasmic shuttling (2), epigenetic modifications (3), and disruption of endocytosis (4), are then ...
