Growth is defined in the Concise Oxford Dictionary as an increase in size, height, or quantity. To the clinician, in broad terms, body growth is synonymous with increase in body mass and this is most easily assessed by serial measurement of weight. In normal intrauterine life, increasing weight can be assumed to represent the orderly process of growth.
