growth parameters of ancestral spores [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This file contains the estimates of growth parameters (maximum growth rate) for the ancestral spores. The growth parameters were estimated by fitting growth models onto the OD readings from the fitness assay.

Deficit Irrigation Stabilizes Fruit Yield and Alters Leaf Macro and Micronutrient Concentration in Tomato Cultivation in Greenhouses: A Case Study in Turkey

open access: yesAgronomy, 2022
Water is crucial for agriculture and needs to be used effectively due to climate change and drought in the Mediterranean region. For this reason, to adapt to water deficit scenarios, deficit irrigation applications are increasing in importance.

Classification of Biodegradability by Growth Kinetic Parameters

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety, 1994
On the basis of classical Monod equations for microbial growth, kinetic parameter values are assessed to enable the characterization of biodegradability as a substance property. Although growth is a microbial property, the substance selects those species from a mixed inoculum that can profit at most under the prevailing conditions.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

Dietary histidine requirement of grow-out Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), based on growth performance, muscle development, expression of muscle-growth-related genes, and blood parameters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
This research was conducted to determine optimal dietary histidine requirement of grow-out Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus, based on muscle development, expression of muscle-growth-related genes, and blood parameters.

Cell geometry and membrane protein crowding constrain Escherichia coli growth rate, overflow metabolism, respiration, and maintenance energy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The physical dimensions and shape of bacterial cells define the surface area available to acquire nutrients and the volume available for synthesizing proteins and DNA. Here, we use computational systems biology to decode the importance of cell geometry as a major determinant of prokaryotic phenotype, including growth rate and metabolic efficiency. This

Heat stress effects on yield parameters of selected rice cultivars at reproductive growth stages [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
One of the overwhelming and deleterious effects of global warming on rice production is heat temperature resulting in rice crop during critical growth stages and consequently, yield and yield components decline. A glasshouse experiment has been conducted

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.
