Growth performance of teak [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Teak is one of the most important commercial tree species of the Tropics. The growth performance of teak in several regions of the world was studied here and compared to the growth rates obtained in several trial plots in Sabah. Formulae describing the relationships among age, height, volume, total timber yield and yield of stem wood in other world ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

The Delta-model revisited: recent trends in the structural performance of the Dutch economy [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
The rapid growth performance of the Dutch economy in terms of growth in real GDP, employment and per capita income can be traced back to the mid-1980s. This paper suggests that the growth acceleration of the Dutch economy has primarily been the result of

Brazil’s Growth Performance: Achievements and Prospects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This paper reviews Brazil's growth performance over the last quarter of a century and discusses the main determinants of a pick-up in growth since the mid-1990s. Emphasis is placed on the policy pay-offs associated with a consolidation of macroeconomic adjustment, which is a pre-condition for sustained growth.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Securing EU growth from services. CEPS Special Report No. 67, October 2012 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This report explores the untapped growth that could result from the better functioning of services markets in the EU and aims to bridge the gap between the policy debate and the latest empirical economic analysis in this field.

Effects of different feeding strategies for the frozen Antarctic krill meal on growth, muscle nutrition, digestive enzyme activity, immunity, molting, and gut microbiota structure of Cherax quadricarinatus

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
To investigate the effect of the frozen Antarctic krill meal (AKM) as an nutritional supplement in Cherax quadracarinatus culturing, an experiment was designed with the following groups: a control group (C) fed with basic feed throughout the experiment ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Effect of Standardized Ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe) Extract on Gut Morphology, Microbiota Composition, and Growth Performance in Broiler Chickens

open access: yesAgriculture
With increasing concerns over antibiotic resistance in livestock, there is an urgent need for sustainable alternatives to enhance health and productivity in poultry production. Ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe), a phytobiotic recognized for its diverse

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.
