Safety of acute exposure to the food additive glycerol (E 422) from beverages

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 24, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract The European Commission requested EFSA to assess the acute exposure to glycerol (E 422) from slush ice drinks and de‐alcoholised wine. The acute exposure assessment was conducted on a single‑consumption‑event basis considering the reported use levels and analytical data of glycerol in slush ice drinks and the proposed maximum level of 50,000 ...

Stereoselective Chemoenzymatic Synthesis Metaraminol Involving Gold‐Catalysed Alkyne Hydration and Carbonyl Biotransamination

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, Volume 29, Issue 16, 25 April 2026.
A chemoenzymatic synthesis of (1R,2S)‐metaraminol was developed by combining gold(I)‐catalysed alkyne hydration and stereoselective biotransamination in a sequential one‐pot process. Various phenol protection strategies were considered in oxidation‐reduction sequences, providing access to enantiopure propargylic alcohols as starting materials for ...

Silyl Rearrangements in Gold‐Catalyzed Transformations

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, Volume 29, Issue 15, 22 April 2026.
The synergy between the exceptional ability of gold catalysts to activate unsaturated substrates and the inherent tendency of organosilicon reagents to undergo silyl‐group rearrangements has unlocked a range of novel transformations, enabling access to otherwise challenging molecular architectures.

Maastiku mõju sookure (Grus grus) kodupiirkondade varieeruvusele

open access: yes
The Eurasian crane (Grus grus) is an important species in Estonia and across Europe, with habitats increasingly threatened by human activity and land-use change. Previous research has mainly focused on migratory behaviour, while the variability of home ranges and their relationship with landscape structure has been less studied.
