Ultrafiltration of Guayule Resin

Journal of Membrane Science, 1995
Abstract The ability of ultrafiltration membranes to effect a separation of the volatle essential oil fraction of guayule resin from other volatile constituents is experimentally demonstrated. For a methanol extraction of guayule resin, 200 and 500 molecular weight cut-off cellulose triacetate ultrafiltration membranes produced a permeate rich in ...

Cutting height effects on guayule latex, rubber, and resin yields

Industrial Crops and Products, 2010
Abstract Guayule (Parthenium argentatum Gray) is a perennial shrub native to the Chihuahuan Desert. While guayule traditionally has been cultivated for rubber, more recently it is being cultivated for its hypoallergenic latex. Other uses including termite resistant wood products and as an energy source have also been identified.

Rubber and Resin Yield Performance of New Guayule Selections

Agronomy Journal, 1992
AbstractGuayule (Parthenium argentatum Gray) is a promising alternative to the rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis Muell. Arg.) for domestic production of natural rubber in semiarid regions. Guayule is not yet a crop and its commercialization will depend on the development of high rubber‐yielding cultivars. The objectives of this study were to determine if

Rubber and resin contents of native guayule germplasm of Mexico

Industrial Crops and Products, 1997
Abstract Plant germplasm obtained from the origin of the genetic material can be useful for varietal improvement. For guayule (Parthenium argentatum Gray.) germplasm, 343 accessions were collected from 53 locations in 20 municipalities within five provinces (Coahuila, Durango, Nuevo Leon, San Luis Potosi and Zacatecas) in Mexico.

Effect of resin components on the degradation of guayule rubber

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 1985
AbstractAll natural rubbers are likely to contain some long chain fatty acids or their esters. The individual effect of the four C18 fatty acids (stearic, oleic, linoleic, and linolenic acid) present in the guayule resin on the degradation of guayule rubber has been investigated concurrently by stress–relaxation of radiation cured rubber networks and ...

Gravimetric Analysis for Determining the Resin and Rubber Content of Guayule

Rubber Chemistry and Technology, 1983
Abstract The method presented provides a fast and sufficiently accurate method for determining the resin and rubber contents of guayule. Although it does not provide definitive or “absolute” values that presumably can be obtained with sophisticated instrumentation, it is well suited for agronomic developmental studies at the field station level.

Improved methods for extraction and quantification of resin and rubber from guayule

Industrial Crops and Products, 2009
Abstract Guayule, a shrub native to the Chihuahuan desert, is a natural source of high quality, hypoallergenic rubber. Unlike rubber trees that produce rubber in laticifers, the rubber in guayule is produced in parenchyma cells of the bark tissue of stems and roots.

Heritability of height, width, resin, rubber, and latex in guayule (Parthenium argentatum)

Industrial Crops and Products, 2001
Abstract Plant breeding in guayule, a rubber and latex producing plant, has not been as effective as predicted or desired. A surprisingly large amount of variability has been reported in this apomictic crop for traits such as plant height, width, resin, rubber, and latex contents.

Biomass, rubber, and resin yield potentials of new guayule germplasm

Bioresource Technology, 1991
Abstract Substantial improvement in rubber yield must be made in order to establish guayule as a reliable source of natural rubber. Selection among heterogeneous apomictic polyploids was used to improve rubber yield in a relatively short period of time.
