Holographic Whole‐Object Photopolymerization Preserving Director Alignment in Liquid Crystalline Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Holographic microlithography enables the fabrication of fully connected 3D liquid crystalline structures in a single exposure. The process maintains precise control over the director orientation within the entire object, preventing local director distortions typically observed in sequential printing.

Guessing probability distributions from small samples

open access: yes, 1995
We propose a new method for the calculation of the statistical properties, as e.g. the entropy, of unknown generators of symbolic sequences. The probability distribution $p(k)$ of the elements $k$ of a population can be approximated by the frequencies $f(

Inverse‐Designed on‐Chip Terahertz Three‐Channel Mode and Wavelength Division Demultiplexer

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, EarlyView.
An ultracompact terahertz demultiplexer is developed using a hybrid inverse design that combines genetic algorithms with topology optimization. The device enables simultaneous mode‐ and wavelength‐division multiplexing within a footprint smaller than two wavelengths.

Does Rapid Guessing Prevent the Detection of the Effect of a Time Limit in Testing?

open access: yesMethodology, 2021
Rapid guessing is a test taking strategy recommended for increasing the probability of achieving a high score if a time limit prevents an examinee from responding to all items of a scale.

Privacy-Aware Guessing Efficiency

open access: yes, 2017
We investigate the problem of guessing a discrete random variable $Y$ under a privacy constraint dictated by another correlated discrete random variable $X$, where both guessing efficiency and privacy are assessed in terms of the probability of correct ...

The Mitochondrial Guardian α‐Amyrin Mitigates Alzheimer's Disease Pathology via Modulation of the DLK‐SARM1‐ULK1 Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Dietary habits play a key role in chronic diseases, and higher annual consumption of fruit and vegetable may lower risk of dementia. Artificial intelligence predicts the lipid‐like compound α‐Amyrin (αA) from plants with edible peels as a drug candidate against Alzheimer's disease.

AI‐Driven Acceleration of Fluorescence Probe Discovery

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We present PROBY, an AI model trained on large‐scale datasets to predict key photophysical properties and accelerate the discovery of target‐specific fluorescent probes. By screening a target‐annotated library, PROBY identifies candidate probes for diverse targets and could guide probe optimization, enabling a range of in vitro and in vivo imaging ...

Correction of Threshold Determination in Rapid-Guessing Behaviour Detection

open access: yesInformation, 2023
Assessment is one benchmark in measuring students’ abilities. However, assessment results cannot necessarily be trusted, because students sometimes cheat or even guess in answering the questions.

Min-entropy and quantum key distribution: non-zero key rates for "small" numbers of signals

open access: yes, 2011
We calculate an achievable secret key rate for quantum key distribution with a finite number of signals, by evaluating the min-entropy explicitly. The min-entropy can be expressed in terms of the guessing probability, which we calculate for d-dimensional

A Quest for the Mechanism of Ultrahigh Resolution SEM Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Using Monte Carlo simulations with explicit definitions of SE1 and SE2 align with a cascade secondary electron production model, this work shows that the 3D nanostructure modulated SE2 emission enhances other than to reduce topographical contrast via a “miniature Faraday cup” effect.
