Guided-mode-leaky-mode-guided-mode fiber structure and its application to high refractive index sensing

We propose a fiber structure based on a single-mode-multimode-single-mode one. A theoretical analysis model based on leaky mode expansion along with a new concept of leaky mode interference is presented to facilitate and enlighten the analysis for the leaky structure.

Both the odd and even higher modes of groove guide, a low-loss waveguide proposed some years ago for millimeter wavelengths and of interest again today, are investigated quantitatively. We verified an early prediction that all the odd higher modes leak, and we find that all even higher modes do also.

Guided modes in nonlinear periodic structures

The formation of optical Bragg waveguides in stratified media possessing a Kerr-type nonlinearity is examined. This is achieved by considering Jacobi elliptic functions matched to decaying Bloch wave solutions. It is shown that above a threshold power guided mode solutions exist whose field confinement is a function of the total guided power. >

Nonpolarizing guided-mode resonance filter

A normal-incidence nonpolarizing guided-mode resonance filter is designed. There are two waveguide layers and one grating layer in the filter. By adjusting the distance between the two waveguide layers, the same resonance wavelength for both TE and TM polarization can be achieved.
