Guided modes of integrated optical guides. A mathematical study
IMA Journal of Applied Mathematics, 1998The authors consider a problem associated with optical fibres and wave guides. The guides are supposed to consist of a compact perturbation (the core) of an unbounded stratified medium. Only weak guidance is considered where the problem reduces to a scalar two-dimensional eigenvalue problem.

Guided modes on open chirowaveguides
IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques, 1995Surface wave modes on an open chiral rod and a planar chiral slab are studied. It is shown that the effect of chirality is to split each mode in the nonchiral case to a pair of modes, the cutoff frequencies of which are above and below that of the nonchiral case.

Mathematical analysis of the guided modes of an integrated optical guide
International Conference on Mathematical Methods in Electromagnetic Theory, 2003© 2002 IEEE. The eigenvalue problem for guided modes of an integrated optical guide is reduced to a strongly-singular domain integral equation. It is proved that the operator of the domain integral equation is a Fredholm operator with zero index. It is also proved that the spectrum of the original problem can only be a set of isolated points.
