Impact of Surface Functionalization on NV Quantum Properties: Implications for Biosensing with Fluorescent Nanodiamonds

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Fluorescent nanodiamonds (fNDs) have emerged as an invaluable quantum sensing platform for biological and biochemical systems. This paper investigates the influence of common surface functionalization strategies for bioconjugation on the quantum properties of nitrogen vacancy (NV) centers in nanodiamonds.

Editorial: Guided-Wave Optics

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2017
Guided waves represent a vast class of phenomena in which the propagation of collective excitations in various media is steered in required directions by fixed (or, sometimes, reconfigurable) conduits [...]

MPI‐Guided Photothermal Therapy of Prostate Cancer Using Stem Cell Delivery of Magnetotheranostic Nanoflowers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Tumor‐tropic human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) were used as delivery vehicles for magnetotheranostic gold–iron oxide nanoflowers. Magnetic particle imaging of the iron component demonstrated widespread intratumoral distribution and sustained retention in contrast to injection of naked nanoflowers.

Magnetohydrodynamic Wave Guide [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1959
The propagation of Alfvèn's wave in an ideally conducting wave guide filled with a plasma is studied. It is predicted that the Alfvèn's waves are coupled to conventional acoustic (compressional) waves which propagate with an altered sound velocity. The behavior of these waves is reminiscent of the longitudinal and shear waves in a rod and an analog of ...

A nearly perfect omnidirectional shear-horizontal (SH) wave transducer based on a thickness poled, thickness-shear (d15) piezoelectric ring

open access: yes, 2017
The fundamental shear horizontal (SH0) wave in plates is of great importance in the field of nondestructive testing (NDT) and structural health monitoring (SHM) since it is the unique non-dispersive guided wave mode.

Gram‐Scale Production of Iron Oxide Rubik‐Cube Nanoparticles: New Tools for the Clinical Translation of Magnetic Hyperthermia and Magnetic Particle Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work reports the first gram‐scale solvothermal synthesis of ‘Rubik's cube’ nanoparticles—cubic, dendritic multicore structures with tuneable sizes and exceptional magnetic heating performance. Featuring iron oxide single‐domain character, with low coercivity fields, high magnetization, and strong MPI signals, they enable viscosity‐independent ...

Assessing Damages in Pipes through Circular Distribution of Ultrasonic Guided Wave Reflections from Defects

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2016
Damages in pipes such as cracks and corrosions may threaten the integrity of pipeline. Using ultrasonic guided waves to detect these defects is efficient. The waves propagate in the pipe wall and carry information of the entire structure.

Phenomenology of pp->pp eta reaction close to threshold

open access: yes, 2003
The recent high statistics measurement of the pp -> pp eta reaction at an excess energy Q=15.5 MeV has been analysed by means of partial wave decomposition of the cross section. Guided by the dominance of the final state 1S0 pp interaction (FSI), we keep

Recomposable Layered Metasurfaces for Wavelength‐Multiplexed Optical Encryption via Modular Diffractive Deep Neural Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Modular diffractive deep neural network metasurfaces encode and reconstruct holograms across layer combinations and wavelengths, enabling secure, multifunctional operation. Each layer acts independently yet composes jointly, yielding up to m(2N −1) channels for m wavelengths and N layers.
