Fatigue Crack Evaluation with the Guided Wave–Convolutional Neural Network Ensemble and Differential Wavelet Spectrogram

open access: yesSensors, 2021
On-line fatigue crack evaluation is crucial for ensuring the structural safety and reducing the maintenance costs of safety-critical systems. Among structural health monitoring (SHM), guided wave (GW)-based SHM has been deemed as one of the most ...

Formation of guided spin-wave bullets in ferrimagnetic film stripes

open access: yes, 2008
The formation of quasi-2D nonlinear spin-wave eigenmodes in longitudinally magnetized stripes of a ferrimagnetic film, so-called guided spin-wave bullets, was experimentally observed by using time- and space-resolved Brillouin light scattering ...

Understanding and Optimizing Li Substitution in P2‐Type Sodium Layered Oxides for Sodium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work explores Li‐substituted P2 layered oxides for Na‐ion batteries by crystallographic and electrochemical studies. The effect of lithium on superstructure orderings, on phase transitions during synthesis and electrochemical cycling and on the interplay of O‐ versus TM‐redox is revealed via various advanced techniques, including semi‐simultaneous

Barely visible impact damage identification in a 3D core sandwich structure

open access: yesComputer Assisted Methods in Engineering and Science, 2018
3D core sandwich structure (3DCSS) is a popular lightweight construction material in the automotive, aerospace and marine industries. However, barely visible low-speed impact-damage (BVLID) may occur in the 3DCSS due to foreign-object-impact that can ...

Pentagonal 2D Altermagnets: Material Screening and Altermagnetic Tunneling Junction Device Application

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
From a database of 170 pentagonal 2D materials, 4 candidates exhibiting altermagnetic ordering are screened. Furthermore, the spin‐splitting and unconventional boundary states in the pentagonal 2D altermagnetic monolayer MnS2 are investigated. A MnS2‐based altermagnetic tunneling junction is designed and, through ab initio quantum transport simulations,

Effects of initial stresses on guided waves in unidirectional plates

open access: yesArchives of Mechanics, 2013
The guided wave propagation in unidirectional plates under gravity, homogeneous initial stress in the thickness direction and inhomogeneous initial stress in the wave propagating direction is investigated in this paper based on the theory of mechanics of

Wave-guided optical waveguides

open access: yesOptics Express, 2012
This work primarily aims to fabricate and use two photon polymerization (2PP) microstructures capable of being optically manipulated into any arbitrary orientation. We have integrated optical waveguides into the structures and therefore have freestanding waveguides, which can be positioned anywhere in the sample at any orientation using optical traps ...

Fully guided-wave photon pair source for quantum applications

open access: yes, 2017
We report a fully guided-wave source of polarisation entangled photons based on a periodically poled lithium niobate waveguide mounted in a Sagnac interferometer.

Propagating transverse waves in soft X-ray coronal jets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Aims. The theoretical model for magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) modes guided by a field-aligned plasma cylinder with a steady flow is adapted to interpret transverse waves observed in solar coronal hot jets, discovered with Hinode/XRT in terms of fast ...

Positive‐Tone Nanolithography of Antimony Trisulfide with Femtosecond Laser Wet‐Etching

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A butyldithiocarbamic acid (BDCA) etchant is used to fabricate various micro‐ and nanoscale structures on amorphous antimony trisulfide (a‐Sb2S3) thin film via femtosecond laser etching. Numerical analysis and experimental results elucidate the patterning mechanism on gold (reflective) and quartz (transmissive) substrates.
