Propagation of Waves in Helical Wave Guides [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Physics, 1958
The field configuration near the conductors of a helical wave guide is obtained from the solution of the spatial-wave equation for a developed helix. This solution is first obtained for the case of tape conductors and then adapted to elliptical (including circular) conductors by conformal transformation.

Managing Complexity, Uncertainty, and Variability in Guided Wave Structural Health Monitoring

open access: yesSICE Journal of Control, Measurement, and System Integration, 2017
Guided waves are an attractive tool for monitoring large structures. They are able to interrogate sizable areas at once, are sensitive to structural damage, and carry information about the damage location.

Study on Defect Monitoring of Buried Pipelines Based on Piezoelectric Ceramic Transducer

open access: yesShiyou jixie, 2022
In order to monitor the defects in buried pipelines accurately, the piezoelectric ceramic transducer was applied to excite longitudinal mode ultrasonic guided waves in buried pipelines. In this paper, the propagation of ultrasonic guided waves in buried ...

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Wave Function

open access: yesThe Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 2022
The electronic wave function of molecules is 3N-dimensional and inseparable in the coordinates of the N electrons. Whereas molecular orbitals are often invoked to visualize the electronic structure, they are nonunique, with the same 3N-dimensional wave function being represented by an infinite number of 3-D, one-electron functions (orbitals ...

Using the Partial Wave Method for Wave Structure Calculation and the Conceptual Interpretation of Elastodynamic Guided Waves

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2018
The partial-wave method takes advantage of the Christoffel equation’s generality to represent waves within a waveguide. More specifically, the partial-wave method is well known for its usefulness when calculating dispersion curves for multilayered ...

Shear-horizontal guided wave tomography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
The petrochemical industry’s pipe-network is increasingly suffering from corrosion-induced shutdowns and thus a quantitative measurement approach is vital for making adequate service-life predictions and to guarantee safety. At pipe-supports, access is

Characterization of the Use of Low Frequency Ultrasonic Guided Waves to Detect Fouling Deposition in Pipelines

open access: yesSensors, 2018
The accumulation of fouling within a structure is a well-known and costly problem across many industries. The build-up is dependent on the environmental conditions surrounding the fouled structure.

Open Guided Waves: online platform for ultrasonic guided wave measurements [PDF]

open access: yesStructural Health Monitoring, 2018
Ultrasonic guided waves have been used successfully in structural health monitoring systems to detect damage in isotropic and composite materials with simple and complex geometry. A limitation of current research is given by a lack of freely available benchmark measurements to comparatively evaluate existing methods.
