A Modular Variable Stiffness Co‐Bot System Achieving Tasks Flexibility and Contact Compliance

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Bio‐inspired antagonistic compliance enables a modular rigid‐soft co‐bot platform with variable stiffness for safe human‐robot interaction (HRI): Standardized interfaces support application‐driven configurations with tailored DoFs, workspace, and stiffness range, making the system suited to HRI and low‐volume automation.

Design and Characterization of a Dual‐Mode Soft Robotic Flapping Propeller With Pneumatic Stiffness Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A novel soft robotic propeller overcomes traditional efficiency‐flexibility tradeoffs via a hybrid pneumatic‐cable actuation strategy. This architecture enables active stiffness modulation with dual‐mode locomotion: tunable biomimetic swimming and earthworm‐inspired wriggling for confined spaces.

Web crippling design of hollow flange channel beams under one flange load cases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The advantage of having no unstiffened elements coupled with material located away from the neutral axis makes hollow flange channel (HFC) beam sections structurally efficient in bending when compared with other commonly used open cold-formed steel ...

Lab‐Scale Fabrication Process Selection for Soft Robotics: Benchmarking, Tradeoffs, and Guidelines for Formative Manufacturing of Soft Silicone Components

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Fabrication shapes soft robot performance, but benchmarking data and selection guidelines remain scarce. We fabricate silicone actuators using two molding techniques and three mold types, characterizing them with cycle testing, microscopy, profilometry, and 3D imaging. Applying our lab‐scale, soft robotics‐specific fabrication evaluation criteria shows

Flange Size Matters: A Comparative Pilot Study of the Flange FITS TM Guide Versus Traditional Sizing Methods

open access: yesJournal of Human Lactation
Background: Pumping is a common practice in the United States, but it can be uncomfortable and lead to concerns about milk supply. The fit of the flange, or breast shield, used while pumping can contribute to or alleviate these problems.

An Integrated Fabric‐Pneumatic Soft Sensing System for Multi‐Site Muscle Activity Decoding

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Fabric‐pneumatic chambers convert muscle deformation into pressure signals without electronics at the body‐contact sensing interface. A unified processing pipeline enables static posture classification, continuous elbow‐angle estimation, forearm gesture recognition, and knee‐movement detection across three anatomical sites.

Solid Lubricants for the Wheel–Rail Interface: Practical Experience and Computational Estimation of Their Effects

open access: yesMachines
This paper deals with solid lubricants for the wheel–rail interface; the topic is viewed from two different but complementary perspectives. By means of simulations, the potential contribution of these lubricants, applied for purposes of wheel flange ...

Dental crown morphological variation and heterodonty in carcharhiniform sharks

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Elasmobranch teeth are highly mineralized structures that constitute the majority of the fossil record for this group. Despite their taxonomic and evolutionary significance, detailed descriptions of dental morphology remain scarce. The order Carcharhiniformes, the most diverse among sharks, comprises 304 valid species that display remarkable ...
