Defining AV2‐1 as a novel pharmacological probe to target human and rodent TRPV2

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and Purpose Transient receptor potential vanilloid 2 (TRPV2) is a non‐selective cation channel implicated in immune cell functions. However, progress in understanding TRPV2 has been limited by a lack of potent and selective pharmacological tools, particularly those targeting the human variant. We aimed to identify and characterise a

FAILURE OF GUINEA PIG ANTIBODY TO BEEF INSULIN TO NEUTRALIZE PANCREATIC AND SERUM GUINEA PIG INSULIN ACTIVITY IN VITRO

open access: yes, 1965
In vitro studies of the ability of sera of guinea pigs containing antibodies to beef insulin to neutralize guinea pig insulin extracted from serum and pancreas were carried out.

The role of fluvoxamine in the treatment of endotoxin‐induced acute heart injury

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and Purpose Cardiovascular diseases are among the most common health problems worldwide. Inflammation plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of various heart diseases. Lipopolysaccharides (LPS) trigger inflammatory mechanisms, leading to an inflammatory response.

Unilateral segmental uterine horn hypoplasia with fallopian tube aplasia in a guinea pig (Caviaporcellus).

open access: yes
A 2-year-3-month-old female guinea pig (Cavia porcellus) was referred for lethargy, weight gain and severe abdominal pain. Ultrasound examination revealed thickening and enlargement of the left uterine horn and an unremarkable right uterine horn.

Endothelium‐ and epithelium‐derived novel endogenous catecholamines as modulators of the autonomic nervous system

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Catecholamines are classically viewed as neuronal transmitters and adrenal hormones; however, accumulating evidence demonstrates that sources other than nerve fibres and adrenal medulla play a fundamental role in local organ regulation. Physiological paradoxes, such as preserved organ function after denervation or transplantation, challenge a ...

Neuronal and ion channel mechanisms of noxious heat sensing in mammals: A puzzle of sensory physiology and pharmacology

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) was the first noxious heat‐sensitive channel discovered. In rodents, its role is robust in the heat response of the cell body of polymodal nociceptors, but surprisingly small in that of the peripheral terminals in the skin.

Caregivers' perspectives of support needs for adolescents with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder

open access: yesChildren &Society, EarlyView.
Abstract Research focused on fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) is often deficit‐focused, limiting a holistic understanding of individuals' support needs. Families of adolescents with FASD also struggle to access appropriate services. Using semi‐structured interviews, the current study explored the perspectives of seven caregivers of adolescents ...

The IgA system of the guinea pig

open access: yes, 1972
The existence of the IgA system of the guinea pig has been established on the following grounds. 1) An 11S immunoglobulin (guinea pig IgA) has been isolated from milk and has been found to differ from IgM, IgG1 and IgG2.
