Flux of crab larvae in a mangrove creek in the Gulf of Nicoya, Costa Rica

Estuarine, Coastal and Shelf Science, 1991
Abstract Transport of crab zoeae, megalopae, and early juveniles was measured in a mangrove estero (creek) in the Gulf of Nicoya on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. In 1987, larvae were collected by quantitative pumping from a platform moored in the mouth of the estero.

DISTRIBUTION, ABUNDANCE, AND SEXUAL COMPOSITION OF STOMATOPODS IN THE GULF OF NICOYA, COSTA RICA

Journal of Crustacean Biology, 1991
ABSTRACT Stomatopod Crustacea were collected by trawling in the Gulf of Nicoya on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. Abundances, size-frequency distributions, and sexual composition were measured at 12 stations. Eight stations in the upper, more estuarine regions of the Gulf were sampled monthly, while the 4 stations in the lower Gulf were sampled ...

Influence of puffer predation on vertical distribution of mangrove littorinids in the Gulf of Nicoya, Costa Rica

Oecologia, 1998
The eastern Pacific puffer fish Sphoeroides rosenblatti (family Tetraodontidae) preys on the mangrove periwinkles Littorariafasciata and L. varia up to 13 cm above the water surface. Puffers capture snails by jumping partially out of the water and removing them by mouth from Rhizophora spp. prop roots.

Optimizing harvesting strategies of the white shrimp fishery in the Gulf of Nicoya, Costa Rica

Crustaceana, 2006
[A time data series of catch data reported at the Gulf of Nicoya for the semi-industrial while shrimp trawling fleet between 1990 and 2003, and population parameters obtained for that species, were both used in an analysis implemented in a semi-automated, age-structured simulation model (FISMO).

Tidal and residual currents in a tropical estuary: Gulf of Nicoya, Costa Rica

Monitoring oceanographic parameters in bays and estuaries is crucial for sustainable development of coastal communities. The Gulf of Nicoya is the largest estuarine system in Costa Rica and plays a fundamental role in the economy of the country. In this study, we collected water level and current velocity data from ADCP recorders and estimated water ...

The structure of bactrerioplankton in a tropical estuary, the case of the Gulf of Nicoya, Costa Rica.

The Gulf of Nicoya is a tropical estuary located on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. Changes in river inflow during dry and rainy seasons make the gulf a dynamic ecosystem. During the rainy season, freshwater input and organic matter discharge cause environmental gradients that affect the structure of the bacterioplankton communities so that at the ...
