Fiddler Crabs (Crustacea: Decapoda: Ocypodidae) From Coastal Ecuador and the Galápagos Islands: Species Descriptions and DNA Barcodes. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
Twenty‐five taxa were collected during the surveys, while two more were noted from the literature and museum collections; five are new to Ecuador. DNA sequences for cytochrome c oxidase–subunit 1 were obtained for 27 operational taxonomic units with three morphologically indistinguishable cryptic or pseudo‐cryptic taxa were also revealed.

Late Quaternary Abrupt Climate Change in the Tropics and Sub‐Tropics: The Continental Signal of Tropical Hydroclimatic Events (THEs)

open access: yesReviews of Geophysics, Volume 59, Issue 4, December 2021., 2021
Abstract Tropical hydroclimatic events, characterized by extreme regional rainfall anomalies, were a recurrent feature of marine isotope stages 2–4 and involved some of the most abrupt and dramatic climatic changes in the late Quaternary. These anomalies were pervasive throughout the tropics and resulted from the southward displacement of the Hadley ...

A Global Set of Subduction Zone Earthquake Scenarios and Recurrence Intervals Inferred From Geodetically Constrained Block Models of Interseismic Coupling Distributions

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 22, Issue 11, November 2021., 2021
Abstract The past 100 years have seen the occurrence of five earthquakes and 94 earthquakes. Here we assess the potential for future great earthquakes using inferences of interseismic subduction zone coupling from a global block model incorporating both tectonic plate motions and earthquake cycle effects.
