ABSTRACT The gill parasite Sparicotyle chrysophrii poses a significant threat to gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata) aquaculture in the Mediterranean, causing considerable mortality and economic losses. As traditional chemotherapeutic treatments, like formalin, face growing regulatory restrictions, there is an urgent need for alternative control ...

Synergistic Effect between Eugenol and 1,8-Cineole on Anesthesia in Guppy Fish (Poecilia reticulata)
This study aimed to evaluate the synergistic effect between eugenol and 1,8-cineole on anesthesia in female guppy fish (Poecilia reticulata). Experiment I evaluated the concentrations of 0, 12.5, 25, 50, and 75 mg/L of eugenol and 0, 100, 200, 300, and ...

We tested whether anaerobic digesters could operate at lower temperatures without losing methane production. Pilot‐scale reactors were run at 48°C or 55°C. Methane yields and gas quality were similar. Lower temperatures reduced volatile fatty acids and supported more diverse microbial communities.

Senescence evolution is usually explained by reduced selection on late acting genes. Here we develop a new model for senescence evolution that complements the classic theory by focusing on genes that affect mortality throughout lifespan. Our work sheds light on the dynamics of senescence evolution and helps to reconcile phenomena that presented ...

Male Strategic Association With Mating Partners Under Varying Social Contexts in a Livebearing Fish
We found that in halfbeaks, a shoaling fish species, males preferentially associated with an opposite sex pair (i.e., a female and a male) over rival males, but showed no preference when choosing between a pair and females. Overall, our data show that males followed informed association strategies that are primarily driven by mating opportunities ...
