Ceramide synthesis regulates T cell activity and GVHD development.

open access: yesJCI Insight, 2017
Allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (allo-HCT) is an effective immunotherapy for a variety of hematologic malignances, yet its efficacy is impeded by the development of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD).

Cadaveric small bowel and small bowel-liver transplantation in humans [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
Five patients had complete cadaveric small bowel transplants under FK506 immunosuppression, one as an isolated graft and the other 4 in continuity with a liver. Three were children and two were adults.

Beyond PD‐1/PD‐L1: New Immune Checkpoints and Therapeutic Combinations in Cancer Immunotherapy

open access: yesMedicine Bulletin, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Recently, immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), particularly PD‐1/PD‐L1 and CTLA‐4 inhibitors, have revolutionized cancer treatment, significantly improving survival rates for various malignancies. However, ICI therapies targeting single checkpoints on T cells still face numerous challenges, such as low response rates and post‐treatment ...

Breath analysis in gastrointestinal graft-versus-host disease after allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation

open access: yesBlood Advances, 2019
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are generated during pathologic processes, and their assessment can be used to diagnose and monitor a variety of diseases.

GVHD: ferocity affects feracitas [PDF]

open access: yesBlood, 2017
In this issue of Blood, Shimoji et al demonstrate for the first time that female mice that develop acute graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) have reduced fertility and that donor CD8+ T lymphocytes are critical for the destruction of granulosa cells and the eventual loss of ovarian function. Importantly, GVHD prophylaxis preserved fertility in their model.

Development and validation of a nutrition risk screening for patients with childhood cancer in Brazil (NUTRICCAN)

open access: yesNutrition in Clinical Practice, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Diagnosing malnutrition in patients with pediatric cancer is challenging because tumor masses can interfere with anthropometric measurements. STRONGkids considers cancer a general risk factor, whereas Screening Tool for Childhood Cancer (SCAN) classifies patients as at risk or not, potentially missing those who need nutrition ...

Diagnosis and Management of Prenatal Hereditary Pyropoikilocytosis

open access: yesPrenatal Diagnosis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hereditary pyropoikilocytosis (HPP) is a severe hemolytic anemia caused by variants in SPTA1, SPTB, and EPB41. These weaken horizontal interactions in the erythrocyte cytoskeleton, causing membrane fragmentation and splenic sequestration. It will readily cause fetal anemia and often hydrops fetalis. Prenatal diagnosis requires first ruling out

Pathogenetic role of tissue factor in graft-versus-host disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) is a serious complication after allogeneic stem cell transplantation, the mechanism of it is still not elucidated.
