Extracorporeal photopheresis (ECP) induces apoptosis in circulating immune cells, but its kinetics vary slightly depending on the cell type. We compared the progression of apoptosis in PBMCs versus highly purified T cells exposed to 8‐methoxypsoralen and ultraviolet A.

Antibiotic‐mediated immune modulation in periodontitis
Abstract Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting the supporting structures of the teeth. Although initiated by dysbiotic microbial communities, its progression is largely driven by the host's uncontrolled inflammatory response. While antibiotics have conventionally been employed in periodontitis therapy for their antimicrobial ...

HLA-DPB1 matching status has significant implications for recipients of unrelated donor stem cell transplants. [PDF]
Studies in unrelated donor (UD) hematopoietic stem cell transplantations (HSCT) show an effect of the matching status of HLA-DPB1 on complications. We analyzed 423 UD-HSCT pairs. Most protocols included T-cell depletion (TCD).

AbstractA potentially life-threatening complication of allo-HCT is graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), which occurs when T-cells from the recipient recognize host antigens on healthy tissues. Despite 50 years of history and over half a million procedures performed worldwide, GVHD remains a challenging issue that physicians are facing on a daily basis.

A sudden increase in EBV DNAemia appears to be a better predictor of PTLD and EBV end‐organ disease than persistent and stable levels of EBV DNAemia. Most HCT recipients with EBV DNAemia did not require rituximab, and immunosuppression reduction was sufficient to control most episodes of EBV reactivation.

Impact of methotrexate-dosing regimens for GVHD prophylaxis on clinical outcomes of HLA-matched allogeneic HSCT. [PDF]
Summary Severe graft‐versus‐host disease (GVHD) remains a major complication of allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo‐HSCT), necessitating optimal immunosuppressive strategies. This retrospective study used data from the Japanese Transplant Registry Unified Management Program to compare three methotrexate (MTX)‐dosing regimens for ...

An injectable bone marrow-like scaffold enhances T cell immunity after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. [PDF]
Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is a curative treatment for multiple disorders, but deficiency and dysregulation of T cells limit its utility.

Stewardship of Molecular Diagnostics in Transplant Viral Infections
ABSTRACT The transplant environment requires special considerations when testing for viral infections as immunosuppression results in atypical infection profiles. Microbes otherwise considered commensals or causing mild disease can lead to severe infections in transplant environments. Therefore, guidelines tend to recommend broader microbial testing in
